Got a call from a friend of mine who is a retired doctor. His daughter works at Riverbend Hosp. and called to warn them about an outbreak of Swine Flu. ICU is full, they've set up a special triage area to isolate people with flu like symptoms and they've set up a command post to handle the situation. She didn't mean to panic, just to caution. Might be a good idea to be a little more aware and stay out of crowds for a while. Thought I would pass the message along.
Swine Flu in Eugene
Yikes Sally be safe and stay out of crowds! Oh, and don't kiss strangers.
ROFLOL Not to worry. It was in the paper this morning.
We had a couple cases here in Lakewood a while back, at a middle school. Far as I know, there haven't been any more reported.
Only thing is they got 12 (4 confirmed, so far) in one day. Haven't heard any more, there was a fair a few days before, maybe they all got exposed there.
Was that the Oregon Country Fair? My neighbors went to that.
That was just before the outbreak and I'm just guessing. Just strange so many all at once. Dh's defibrillator went off yesterday (of course on Sat.) and when I talked to the doctor he didn't want us to go to hospital unless it was absolutely necessary. Luckily he's o.k. and we didn't need to. See if I can find out more when we go to get it checked in another part of the hospital.
I don't want to upset people, but living through the 1989 earthquakes down here taught me something about being prepared. I sincerely hope everyone who can, puts together an emergency preparedness kit. Puts aside water, food, etc.
If we are asked to stay in our homes for our own safety, how many of us could do that for even a week and not need anything?
Uuuhhhhh - I would die of thirst and starve. I'm going to take your advice, right after I drive over to the beach with my dog for a play day. Good advice you give!
I have lots of family up in Oregon. I hope they all consider staying out of public places.
I had a bad case of the flu 12 years ago and it was so bad it scared me enough to want to go to emergency, but they were asking people not to because they already had too many people to take care of. I couldn't breath, I had to concentrate on breathing and could only sleep in 15 minute intervals sitting up. I can understand why a bad flu for which we have no resistance, can be so deadly.
