Hi - appreciate any brief pointers!
I have concluded that rhizomatous begonias do the best for me (the canes struggle and get too leggy with our winters and poor lighting), but they are developing rather long, twisted rhizomes and now draping over the side of the pot. I've never used rhizome cuttings and am a little nervous about losing my begonias.
I'm hoping to take the end of the rhizome(with the leaves) and re-pot, and then try to pot up the 'stick-like' part (as illustrated in Brad's Begonia World).
1. To propagate from rhizome cuttings, I was wondering if most of you enclose them in small containers (e.g. with a plastic bag covering) for best success?
-2. Also, my begonias seem to have rather long stems and not look as compact and full as the pictures I see posted. I was wondering if this would suggest I could improve light or nutrition.
Thanks!
two questions...
I am not very good with the rhizomatous but I don't think you need an enclosed container if you have a tiny piece of the rhizome. I broke
off a piece by accident, potted it up and it took off growing right away in an open pot.
The leggy growth probably indicates they need more light.
Thanks - I'll give it a try this weekend!
