I have had the neatest surprise this past week. My one (I have started 4) Kleim's Hardy Gardenia decided to give me a reason to be excited this week. Here is what she did for me. She is not even two years old yet. JB
JBs Blooming baby gardenias!
Another surprise was this Gardenia Taitensis is showing some promise. She almost died because I put her outside before the frosts ended. This is the one that looks like a gardenia tree. The leaves are only at the top of the stem and now she is blooming. Picture was taken with my phone, so it may not be too sharp. Sorry. At least you can see it. This phone does not capture the beautiful fragrance. :) Enjoy JB
JB - great job, my friend!!! Tell me your take on the scent of the Gardenia Taitensis, please.
Chantell, it is so different than my other gardenias that it is difficult for me to explain. It is almost lemony, yet it isn't, it could be bitter, but I am not sure. It is soft and very light compared to the sweet heavy scent of the big gardenia tree. What do you think?
BTW, I found the place where the Acme got the Gardenia Trees and I have written to the production manager questions I had, i.e. is it patented, was it grafted there? did they develop a new species to give such large buds, blooms and leaves, etc. I hope they answer me. I will give you the link as soon as I have time to copy it. Later. JB
Will look forward to hearing their responses.
Mine never bloomed and then (surprise) died when I brought it indoors. Becky thought the scent was light too, as I recall. Surprises me given how it's described - you'd think it would be steroid gardenia scent or something...
You are correct the scent is light, that is a good way to describe it. But, it is very soothing and I think it is not like a gardenia scent at all. I wish we could find some others to describe it. Or do you already have that someplace I could read?JB
There once was a wonderful nursery Flower Scent Gardens...he had the most amazing way of describing scents...sadly he closed up shop. The other place that comes to mind i.e. great fragrant descriptions is Tops Tropicals: "intoxicating sweet fragrant blossoms" http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/garden_catalog/cat.cgi
