Bougainvillea 'Purple Robe'
LOL Kin, do you think? LOL
Just shows you even with total neglect it still puts on an incredible show.
Think of the poor neighbors.
And I have the plant Nazi right next to me. I cannot believe him. he so hate plants. Moved in about 6 months ago and the first day he took possession, even before the family moved into the house, the guy got a huge dumpster delivered and a crew then clear cut the entire yard so not one living thing was left on it over 3 days.
All my vines had to get cut back too on his side too, heaven forbid a bit of color wandered onto their yard. And daggers to my heart, he went after a bougainvillea that I had planted 30 years ago from a gallon can that now is just huge but sadly the entire back half spills over into their yard. Sadly, it is way too close to the fence. All past owners loved it. Not the plant Nazis. He has pruned it right to the fence so there is not one leaf is left or a branch on the entire back side. It goes right to the main totally bare trunks all the way up.
This drastic pruning made it go nuts on my side in spring and it has grown like crazy outward and upward. It is in full glorious bloom right now.
He was pruning it even more over this last weekend. I was looking at it from my bedroom window as he did it. I could hear his electric destroyer and I was cringing. Then the entire plant lurched forward about 3 feet, all 3 stories of it. So now it is dangerous to be in my backyard for it is going to fall forward any minute. Just too off balance and too heavy with new growth and blooms. Thank God it does not rain here in summer. I have to get someone in here to trim it way back. The problem is I have so many plants in the way, it is going to be so hard to do it without lots of collateral damage.
I know it his property and his right but I am starting to hate him. LOL Oh and evidently his hate of the green does not extend to flowering weeds 2 feet high that have taken over his entire yard. I am investing in Preen.
I'm so saddened to hear this!
You must have planted the bougainvillea just before your Son was born and it was just like a child to ya. The nerve of some people who have such hatred to plants. Your experience made me cringe with horror.
I sure hope no one gets hurt or any further damage will be done by his massacre to the bougi! You watch out when your in the area too. You never know when it could just snap and fall. I just had a catalpa branch break while I was in the back yard yesterday for no good reason whatsoever! Scared the fertilizer outta me!! You never realize how heavy those branches are until you have to clean them up.
I planted it a few years before TT was born. He just turned 27. I think it was the first year I was in this house. I can actually remember planting it from a gallon can. I was new to gardening in a yard. It is one of the major reasons I would not move from here over the years when my husband so wanted to. Well that and the perfect weather. LOL
I have been waiting since 10am for the guys to leave the enemy's yard (he is putting in a lawn YEA!) and come to my side to cut it way down. Oddly the foliage is like a waterfall that starts about 12 feet up so there will be no green or blooms left at all. Just some bare trunks. I am sick over it.
Here it is yesterday. It is actually even bigger than it looks. I now will lie in bed and look at empty sky instead of purple. Woe is me.
