Looking for growers to participate in East Texas plant sale

Most East Texans know that the Cherokee County Master Gardeners (of which I am a member) host a plant sale each year. Starting this year, we are going to begin hosting a plant sale twice a year - one in the spring and one in the fall.

An additional change this year is that we're opening it up to allow people who are not members of our group to bring plants for sale.

So, we're now looking for people who would like to join us in this endeavor.

The plant sale is an opportunity to interact with the community's gardeners, sharing our plants and our knowledge with them. We have found the plant sales to be high energy and exciting days where enthusiastic members of our local community come out to talk about plants with us and each other. It's also an opportunity to raise money for ourselves and the master gardener association.

I know a lot of East Texans here have a wide variety of plants, and I'd welcome each one of you to consider joining us this fall for our plant sale. You get to keep 50% of the proceeds from the sale of your plants, and the master gardeners keep the other half. The sale will be on the last Saturday in September at our Cherokee County demonstration gardens in Jacksonville, TX.

If you are interested in learning more about this, please d-mail me and I'll fill you in on all the details. Please do consider joining us - it will be a day of great fun, camaraderie, and gardening chat, and maybe make a few bucks while doing it. ^_^

I am a member of this group and also hope many of you will join us. The Demo garden is a new project for us. There is also an Arboretum located here. We hope to have a good start to this garden by fall. The plant sale will assist us in funding the project.
The dedication ceremoney for the Arboretum and Garden will be coming in October so many things need to be in place for this event.
Thanks,
DD

Has the date for this been set yet?

Yes, good question! It's the last Saturday in September. If that day is "rained out" then it'll be the first Saturday in October.

The sale will benefit our garden project. We were given a nice sized plot of land for our gardens. Getting it fenced, water lines, improving the soil and other things are expensive for a small non-profit group. We will have raised bed veggie gardens that will be given to our local HOPE soup kitchen and food pantry. We also plan on having a dozen or so island theme beds.
For those that live too far away to come to the sale, we might be able to use some of your things. If you were to send in the mail, we could pot them up and sale them. We will later also ask for assistance from you on some of the special plants to be planted in our theme gardens.
I hope that we have made a good bit of progress by the time the next RU is here so we can show off our project.
This is an neat project for us. Hope you can be part of it.

I am sure there will be an area of Native plants. I will need your assistance in many ways in this area. I know that you work with the natives there so will get with you later for ideas, plant ID and plant sources. Thanks.

Dave,

Are you still looking for participants? I have divided up and dug up several plants in the last week or so. I don't have room for anything so swapping is not a good option. I thought I might go ahead and bring the load down to the plant sale.

Definitely. I d-mailed you more info.

My internal clock went off and said it is time to get crackalacken. Come on people let's get out there and get to buying those plants. I hope someone has some plants I just can't live with out. Here is one I hope other people can't live with out, because we are bringing several;

A big THANKS to Ken, Maggie and Lee for coming to our sale and bringing your special plants. It was a very good day and successful. I think we all sold a lot of plants and taught many about gardening. Also thanks to the DGers that came out and supported us. I really enjoyed visiting with you guys as always.
Also thanks for the plants you donated to our Demo garden. Your additions will just make it more beautiful.

Thanks again and hope to do it again in the spring. Since this was the first at this location, I believe even more gardeners will come out next time.

See you at the RU.

Our pleasure Dave, it was a lot of fun. I hope we can help to make Jacksonville a center for the plant word of east Texas and educate people on plants. We are excited about being a part of this, thanks.

Ditto from me. It was really great to have you three join us (Ken, Maggie and Lee). The plant sale was a success well above my hopes, and I'm certain the Springtime plant sale will be twice as big. I'm already starting to plan for it, and I hope you are, too!

Thanks to all of you for such an enjoyable outing! Ken & I talked about the fellowship between gardeners being the biggest plus of these types of get-togethers....I appreciate the sharing of good will, knowledge and humor between us.......not to forget the sharing of plant specimens. Special thanks to David, Dave, Keith, Ken & Maggie for their gifts! Looking forward to the Spring Sale next year.....and to the RU in a few weeks! 'Til then, Lee
