What is it?

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

I know you guys will know it right off, but I don't. I got this plant from a Hispanic man who speaks English very well, but doesn't always know the English name for a plant, ie this one.

The flower is pale pink this year, but has been a much deeper pink at other times and even blue.

It looks like a type of Phlox, there are many varieties.

Have you looked up Mexican phlox?...I have never seen pink coloration in the flowers, only white, but the plant structure looks about right. Hard, hard to find now and not sure why.

Edinburg, TX

What did he call it in Spanish? Perhaps we can figure it out from that.

Whatever it is, it looks really good with the rest of your plantings.

PS. Is your dog digging up your spring bulbs? The little rascal!

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks all. Sorry I've been off for so long--been dealing with a slab leak (a real adventure). Carpet, last thing, finally in.

I agree it looks similar to Phlox and probably is some sort of that, but couldn't find this exact one. Not under Mexican Phlox.

Terri, my dog is just always "nosing" around when I'm out there. Most times she's looking for frogs that stay under the Indian Hawthorne in the day time.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Do you remember what the Spanish name for it is?

Liberty Hill, TX

Could be John Fannick's Phlox (Texas Superstar)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Syb...You might post a close-up of the flowers and leaves for a better id. Love your garden, I guess I can't pawn off any of my EEs to you! LOL!

hi, just lurking around tonight!

can you tell me what plant that is on either side of the blanket flower? thanks so much. it just looks so green and healthy and not minding the heat one bit.

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, it's almost a year later, tracksinsand, but I hope you're lurking and see this. I don't know what a blanket flower is, but the really green leafy stuff by the shrub in question is lamb's ear. The short flower is called a cone flower, I think.

Arlington, TX

The short orange flower is the blanket flower or gallardia.

Just my guess ;)

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks fo the comments. Catzgalore, where can I see a picture?

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks C. Where did I get coneflower? Ok, it's a blanket flower, huh. I'll write it down. They are really hearty little things, but since I used corn meal gluten as a fertilizer and preemergent, I doubt any of them will sprout this year. I saved some seed, so maybe I can get some potted. Time, time, time. lol

Grandview, TX(Zone 8a)

sybram if you click on the link I posted it should take you to plant files page for it. There are pics there. I'm not very good at the 'Name this plant' game. LOL
I see your in Burleson. Small world. We should get together sometime. Are you going to the RU in May?

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, it's not the Mexican hydrangea. I'll take a close up pic of it tomorrow. Of course, it's not blooming now, but you guys are goooood, and I know you'll recognize the leaf and shape, etc.

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Catzgalore, I'd love to meet you, and yes, I'm planning to be at the swap. I live about half way between Burleson and Mansfield on CR528 (east from I-35). Where are you?

Grandview, TX(Zone 8a)

Do you know where Taco Casa is? I'm in the addition down by the bridge there.
528. That sounds very familiar to me. Down 1187?
Great!! Have a look at my list on the RU thread and see if there's anything you would like.

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

It reminded me of my soapwart, so I looked in the plant files and found this:

It has a spanish name, too.
