Look what we found.

Waterman, IL(Zone 5a)

I saw this young, male, unfixed, Pit Bull wandering down our country road yesterday. He looked very tired and thirsty. I was on my way to class, so I call DH on my cell to let him know there was a lost dog coming his way and he should put our Buddy in the house. You never know. When I returned from class the little dog was in our barn. DH had gone out looking for him and found him laying in a puddle trying to cool off and get a drink. He picked him up in the truck and drove to some of the neighboring farms looking for his owner. No luck.

I called the local humane society last evening, but only got a recorded message. I left a message for them to call me today in case someone reported him missing. My feeling is he was dumped on our road because we're so isolated, it was convenient. He had no collar. He's wearing one of ours for now.

How do you put a call out for a found Pit Bull without getting someone who lies and is a hoarder of animals, or worse, wants a fight dog? We'll do some more driving around the neighborhood today, but I'm putting my hopes in a rescue group if we can't find his real owner. He's a very sweet, friendly dog; a little on the thin side, but no apparent misuse. If I call animal control, do you think they will bring him to a "no-kill" shelter or put him down in a few days? I can't allow that, yet I need to see if anyone has called them about their dog.

Any advice?
