July 10, I spotted these in a tree in front of my house. They were amazing. The male opened the hole and then the female spent 90 minutes pecking around in it .

thanks everyone....I was so amazed and facinated with them....I never thought I would see them in the city....it has been an unusual year...in the spring we had Eastern Screen Owls....I posted the picture of the baby I got....

Great shot! I like the woodpeckers. Last week I was outside and heard a Ladderback Woodpecker up in a tree. After a while I realized it was answering every time the neighbor's chicken would crow. This went on for a while...I thought it was odd!
wow, I will have to look up ladderback woodpecker as we don't have them in Ohio....and I am hoping that they do come back to that tree...I keep looking out at it......
Cool shots!! I get them too. We have had at least 3 possibly 4 different birds coming this summer and I am in heaven. I drop whatever I am doing to watch them whenever they come by!
