Any one ever made a trellis with grapevine

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

I am thinking about making either obelisks or trellises with grapevine. I have read it needs to be soaked if it is "old"
I am not sure I want to be trampling the woods...with all the snake and spider stories...but would like to know if anyone has tried this(and survived) as well if it is easy to do.

you may be able to google making willow furniture or trellis etc., the technique may be the same.

as a basket maker I can tell you dont limit yourself to just grapevine.. Go ahead and use any kind of vine except for poison ivy or oak...lol.. If its dried youll have to soak it or steam it so you can bend it but if its green its easier to form. You'll have to allow for shrinkage and some splitting where you nail it. I make trellis and lattice screens out of just about everything. I made a lattice out of some redtips I cut down that were to close too the house. Its acting as a divide covered with Morning glories to help screen my back yard from the front cause I cant afford privacy fencing right now.. I made a a bottle tree out of some ceder branches I cut back.. I added 5 ft of height to an end of my chain link fence to keep my wild child,Grace, from jumping over it using bamboo and zip ties.It has jacarda vine on it now. Have fun and get creative!

I specalize in antler baskets. I use moose, elk, deer and caribou antlers as the handles. I dye my own colors.. Ive been weaving for about 20 yrs now and have baskets in collections all over the counrty and overseas. No 2 or ever alike. I enjoy it, Keeps me busy and out of trouble....lol...(most of the time)
This pic is an elk antler basket woven with reed and seagrass. My cats use it as their bed.Overall it stands about 3 ft tall and is about 34 ins wide( side to side) and 18 ins deep( the basket part) to give you an idea of its size

thanks everyone.. I enjoy making them,. I dont have a lot of pics anymore.. the puter crashed and I lost them.. I make all sizes and for years did art and crafts shows. I dont do shows any longer cause of heath issues. One of the last pieces I did was even bigger than the first pic shown . I bartered it for a years worth of pottery classes..lol..My work is in a gallery in Center Tx. No web site cause Im just not much a puter person...lol.. I buy my antlers from a supplier in Moscow, ID called Moscow Hide and Fur. I use shed antlers cause of hunting regulations and stuff like that. I also do gourd art along with a jillion other things Im interested in..lol..

BlkRaven to get a website ... free, call one of the schools that have technology classes. Those kids are always looking for something to do and they get class credits. Tell them upfront you dont have any money ... unlike me ... you dont want anyone scheming on you. I had one to come here to help me with some CRM software I purchased. He helped me some, but he really wanted to do web designs, he didn't come back. The other one called ... he was not interested if he was not going to do web designs .... so that's a good thing for you.

Love the Bison fetish on that one. Since we have a buffalo restaurant we have a vested interest in all things with Bison in / on them. DW has several jewelry pieces, and I have several belt buckles, not the mention the "herd" of bison artwork in our home.
