First dh doesn't want chickens and now he's on my case because I want to move the brooder into the bathroom when we leave on vacation tomorrow so it'll be easier for the house sitter and no risk from the cat or from a dog that is going to be here later in the week but before we get back.
Dh is worried they will be bored because they won't have a window to look out of or people walking by in the kitchen, if they're stuck on the bathroom floor with nothing but the tile and wall to look at.
Which had never even occurred to me but now I have to worry about that too. Do chickens get bored if they don't have a good view? (They have plenty of room in the brooder so not worried about that!)
This is what I put up with....
It is better to be a little bored than dead. You can make it up to them later--or put little perches and stuff for them to jump up and down on--or hide in. You could have the house sitter give them a little bit of parsley or other treat every day to break up the monotony.
I do have a perch in there for them. I also told him to dig up clumps of grass with the dirt still attached and put it in there every day. They like that a lot.
I just don't want them to start pecking each other cuz they're bored.
Wow I want to be one of your chickens... That is awesome
LOL My mil always used to tell me she wanted to come back in her next life as one of our cats. I try to be nice to Charlie, just in case....
However, the animals that really get spoiled around here are the dogs.
OK Gwen, then I want to be one of your dogs ;-)
The chicks sound like they get spoiled enought. I would love so see how spoilled the dogs are :)
My chicks also like playing in cardboard boxes or tubes. I don't think it's a "requirement" but it adds amusement to their day!
mine loved cardboard boxes with lil holes cut out of them so they could run thru them & hop up on them. Never thought about the tubes tho.. have to keep that one in mind. I wonder if hampster tubes would work just as well...
Dang, our chicks must have been bored :(
When we go on vacation (which we are on right now), when we stop for food, they get their own meal. LOL They are very fond of In N Out burgers! Also Ivars fish and chips.
Other than that, they're just normal dogs.
Wow, I never heard of In n Out burgers or Ivar's fish and chips. I don't think we have them in the midwest!
Never seen hide nor hair....
Gwen your dogs sound like mine when we take ours with us they get a meal too.
Mine love Chicken tenders and my little one loves fish and when i ask for hot dogs no buns the cashier always looks at me funny.
I have to say it's for my dogs LOL
We give our dogs the buns! (Even tho they are bad for them.) I gave up on chicken tenders. They're always too hot and one of my dogs will heave it back up if it's too hot.
I was informed last night that one of the little kids at dinner fed Kenzie his/her entire plate of food. I'm not sure which kid but apparently they didn't care for my food too much! (It was our night to cook. Every night a different family cooks. I'm so glad to have my night over!)
Was anyone else listening to NPR yesterday afternoon (All Things Considered) to hear the piece on In and Out burgers? I laughed when it started in the car on my drive home, having just heard of the In and Out burger on this thread and saying I'd never heard of it, to suddenly hear about it on the radio blew me away. Now I am fully informed about the history and styles of the In and Out burger! they confirmed that it is only a west coast chain. One reason for this is that they don't use frozen components in their burgers so they don't spread over a large area because they have to be within a certain mileage of their suppliers.
I have only had fresh burgers at home i bet those in and out burgers are delicious {;~p
I heard it on my way home---I was going to update you on IN N OUT--but the segment made it unnecessary. We even have one here in Lodi.
And I must confess I am among those who drive past and yell---"It is just a BURGER!".
That's funny that you heard it too. Ah, we are but yarnage peas in a pod.
I love in and out burgers, we have one here..... I really like the shakes they have, they taste good...
My chickens must be bored, need to get them some toys..
Yarnage peas in a burger joint.......don't just mix yer metaphors....BLEND them
(sorry all....grow's just feeling wonky...know it's socially unacceptable)
Sorry Grow, I was so excited about the burgers and yarnage....I should've made a metaphor milkshake.
mmmmm....bacon....nooooo....
