Anyone know how to pollinate a banana?

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

I'm getting flowers but they are just drying up not pollinated as new ones come out??? Japanese fiber banana BTW.

From what I understand, they have male and female flowers .. unfortunately, they don't seem to occur at the same time on the same plant.

I am not sure, the parent plants for Core's basjoo's always made tiny little cute but inedible bananas.

Incidentally, I am still giving banana plants away from that same clump Corey. I had trashed everything that was left after you got some and more came up. I gave about a half dozen to a plant sale last year and I just dug some for Jenny. This is the plant that keeps on giving. I have finally figured out how to grow that one. When it gets to big for the spot I give it away and another smaller one takes it's place. Perfect.

At least you're getting flowers this year Core! Mine aren't even flowering. Like all my fruiting crops this year; nada.

I haven't seen any flowers on any of my fruiting bananas either. Do you think it might be because of all the rain we have been having. Surely most of the fertilizer has been washed out; maybe they are hungry.

It's just ONE of the "funny things" I've noticed this year, Ardesia. None of my vegetable crops produced normal fruit this year. I normally have jillions of Key Limes forming about now; this year I have NONE. No flowers or fruit on my biennial producing orange tree, although this is its "producing" year. This should be a heavy year for the biennial-producing Pecans on the property, but see no signs yet of fruit formation. Something strange is going on---don't know whether it's the rain, the unseasonably hot June, El Nino, or Nostradamus---but something's weird with this year!

My fruiting bananas haven't flowered either, I have a few for show and few I would actually like to get fruit off of. The fruiting bananas seem to be late growth wise this year. Don't know much about bananas yet so ..

I have to say my citrus trees and plum tree all are having a heavy fruiting year. Plums have all ready been picked.

Must be Nostradamus.

According to some it's the curse of Obama. Plague coming (swine flu), crop failure, etc etc all leading to world wide unrest among the peasants. LOL> Book of Relation, Apocalypse, that kind of angle.

I heard a guy on TV saying BO was going right through the 10 planks of communism. Here's a fast search link to those. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Communist_Manifesto

Such fun to be President and that guy Nostradamus who talks in riddles with no exact time frame or exact action that is going to take place. Priceless to use him in an argument.

I think The Lizard Man Of Lee County has something to do with it. For those who don't know about him, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lizard_Man_of_Scape_Ore_Swamp

Don't even THINK that, ardesia! I think El Nino's at the bottom of this...at least that's semi-explainable...!

Naw, it is really one of our Lowcountry ghosts. They have been pretty quiet for a while now. I recently learned tha some of the come-yas don't believe in them. Maybe they just want to shake our chains once in a while.

Ohhhh I feel real estate prices dropping. I'm sure you got the memo about our "friends" who live in the "woods" and "wetlands". They're "wind chime hobbyists". All goes under the heading of native culture and long history of the Low Country.

Prices dropping? If a home in Charleston can advertise it has a ghost the price goes up a hundred grand.

Sorry it was the first thing that came up on a Google search, I didn't really look it over to see who wrote it or what I just wanted something that listed the 10 planks. Any ways when Nostradamus came up I was just looking for a far out example of some thing and was watching an interview on TV while I was on here. News was just odd and very extreme to the left and right that day depending on who you were listening to.

You're right about ghosts in Charleston it probably is a good selling feature. LOL. The ones out wandering the "wetlands" aren't such a good selling feature. The guy down the street wants to buy a VW Vanagon, oh no. Were going to have hippies living in our swamp soon. He wants an old school VW pop up top etc real hippie machine. How do you keep hippies out of your fruit trees?

Boring day on the market again???? :-)

I don't think this Goldman earnings thing has legs. Don't know for now.
