Gladiolas overwintering in NY???

I had bought a lot of glads on sale late last Spring - planted them, moderate results, wasn't thrilled with any of them and left them. Fast forward a year - several of them came up AGAIN!! I've never had glads come up a second season in NY unless I dug and replanted. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Not all of them came up, but a few of them, one in each grouping seems to have a bloom waiting to emerge.
