We either started it from seed (which should have been patty pan or zucchini) or purchased with other squash in a pony pack.
In which case is should be a butternut or an acorn squash.
I didn't have any volunteer squash in my veggie patch.

You must be right, hubby did some searching and found a photo of a yellow zucchini ball called a grenade, it looks like ours.
Now he swears grenade "rings a bell" and that he remembers buying it when we purchased our other squash plants.
I don't remember, but over the years I have learned that man has a memory you best not challenge *L*
