This a potatoe barrel,I put plastic over it so the have would not get wet and they love to lay there eggs there,in the morning when I let them out one of them runs as fast as she can to get to the barrel to lay her egg,she must hold it untill she is let out LOL
What is your chickens favorite place to lay eggs?
Hi green, it the egg soft? It looks soft. If so they may need more calcium.
Our hens have different nests in different pens. Our older hens have 5 gal paint buckets that lay on the side on a frame my husband built that they lay in. They also lay in a little corner by the door of the pen. They started that recently. I think they like it because it is dark there (until we open the door) Our other chickens have nesting boxes my husband built. They all want to lay in the same nest though. And, if a hen goes sitting on eggs they all want the nest she is in.
Agrees with smedgekles on the egg.........could need more calcium in their diet.
And our hens lay eggs in there nexting boxes in the coop, and them go back out for dust baths, especially today. Believe it our not, we are over 80 degrees today, but humid. But the girls are enjoying there dust baths in the shade. White hens are no longer white.
No the egg is not soft and they get a layer feed and oyster shells.
Mine love a corner... Also turned over 5 gallon buckets, but their favorite of all are the old dresser drawers that rescued from the dump..Just the right size and depth..In fact sometimes there will be 3 in them at the same time..I have about 8 of these along with egg boxes on the wall and floor..
Larkie
So the egg is just mis-shapen? We get some mis-shapen eggs sometimes but never that bad. I'm not sure what exactally causes it but I think it has something to do with diet.
Oh i see that egg and it's not soft like rubber.
Claire had some chickens with wrinkle eggs and it was a Because of a respiratory thing.
Let me see if i can find that.............
http://www.afn.org/~poultry/flkman3.htm Here it is it talks about misshapen eggs
The egg is deformed from the hen crossing her legs waiting to make a run for the potato barrel.
The eggs I had had some unusual ridges/shapes to them and it was a result of infection with infectious bronchitis. These symptoms have slowly gone away over months of time and the eggs are pretty much normal again now, although some still get ridges.
Very funny porkpal,I`m still laughing
Thanks Harmony that was informative, don`t think that is what it is but will wait and see if any of things show up.
