Another set of babies have hatched.

This is another one of our Silkies with her new babies that hatched today. One is black and yellow and has feathered legs and the other is yellow, most likely a BO.

They are so cute! Congratulations!

:) i forgot to mention on nutmegs thread.. I think it was u that said some of Nutmegs eggs might hard boil it was so hot up here.. well the last 4 i took outside & for scientific purposes i cracked them all. Low & behold.. one had a what appeared to be a hard boiled yoke. It starting raining shortly after that & i didn't get a picture. I was just.. shocked.

Your kidding greykyttn you actually found what looked like a hard boiled yolk. It has been so hot here I wouldn't be surprised if some of ours were hard boiled. We accidentally left 2 eggs out on top of one of our lower pens. I found them this afternoon and they were so so hot. I haven't cracked them open yet, but I might find a hard boiled yolk as hot as they were.

It is so hot and humid here that the little babies arn't drying well. The black one finally dried but the yellow one was still wetish in the pics above.

I'm completely serious. I had to yell for my mom to come look bc I knew she'd never believe me, the kids got a kick out of it. I wish I'd gotten a pic of it but it started pouring down rain & we had to run for the house. Afterwards they were pretty well washed away. It was very hot here that last week. Nearly 110 heat index. I'm sure her body heat plus that was quite a bit for that last few days. These were eggs that didn't even begin to develop too & 3 of them weren't that rotten green yellow color yet either.. I wonder how long it takes an egg to slow hard boil....

How are the babies doing today?

They are finally coming out from under the mama but she is very protective and tries to keep them under her. They are so hot I think they are sweating because the yellow one is still damp. We put out some chick starter and they are pecking at it.
