I've only seen Ruby Throated Hummingbirds in our area.
Spotted this busy little guy today in my petunias.
Any ID?
Thanks!
Is This a Hummingbird? Or What?
That is a Hummingbird Moth. They can give you more info over on the Bug ID forum. I seem to remember that their cat's are really big, hungry plant eaters ^_^

Thank you so much. I'll go check it out.
I wasn't able to snap a front shot, this guy was quick and sounded just like a hummer, but as it flew from one petunia to another I did notice it's long antennae.

Oh my gosh! The wierdest thing happened to me??? I looked at this thread before I went to bed and had a horrifying dream about this hummingbird moth! I dreamed that it attacked me and stung me on the fingers extremely hard, very painful. I was trying to kill it with a tennis racket but it was too fast. Finally I killed it. When I woke up, my arm was asleep and my fingers were tingling real bad. LOL. Sounds crazy, but I have seen these bugs before, and I don't like them. They also had me fooled at first, thought it was some kind of hummingbird. UGH! I don't like bugs. But Very good pictures of it. :)
Strange story! But don't worry - hummingbird moths are completely harmless

Will they be destructive in my veggies & flowers?
05 -- If you enjoy hummingbirds, you'd have liked this moth. Wish I could remember my dreams as vividly as you recalled yours! That was pretty funny. Don't read my "what's slithering" thread, morning or night, if this guy gave you the willies.
I don't mind snakes oddly enough. And when I was a teenager I used to have a rose hair tarantula. But I think what ruined me with insects is the scorpions we have here, and these huge ugly horse flies. Oh, it just makes my skin crawl. No I love hummingbirds, not this insect that wants the be a hummer. I know that it's disguise. They're around here, they suck the sap that comes out of our oak trees. I just have a huge fear over bugs that are so big, that's all.

No; like nearly all moths, they have only a very small range of larval food plants. The caterpillars eat bedstraw Galium species, which are usually considered weeds. The adults only eat nectar.
