Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

U bet!
Send me your addy!

Copperas Cove, TX(Zone 8b)

I just saw some of those in the woods at my aunt's house in alabama. Can they be transplanted? I wanted to bring it home so badly, lol. She said she didn't think they would live.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Sure you can, they have little black bubils in the axles of the leaves,or you can dig up the bulb and transplant them.

Copperas Cove, TX(Zone 8b)

Cool, thanks so much. I hope I can find them next time I go back.

Copperas Cove, TX(Zone 8b)

I just called her and she said the ones in the woods are Carolina lilies and are native plants. She said she tried moving them closer to the house before and they died. Boohoo. She said they make seed pods but she isn't able to get down to where I found them to collect any for me to try the seeds. She is elderly and has bad knees now. They look very similar so I'll have to look for a tiger lily instead I guess, lol.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

If you don't find any let me know next spring and I;ll collect some bubils for you, there all gone now,but there will be plenty again next early summer.

Copperas Cove, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks I will let you know if I don't find them. They remind me of things from my childhood in Alabama like the red spider lilies. I have found those and planted them so hope to see some bloom this fall. I had some sort of wild or naturalized lily (surprise lilies I called them) in the yard that would just pop up and I always picked it for my Mom, lol. She always asked if I had swiped it from someone else's yard because she didn't know we had any, lol.

hey Tropic, do youknow how long it takes one of those bulbules to grow into a plant. Are they perhaps those baby ones the first year that don't flower anthen flower the next year? I used to have a wonderful clump of them untill shade took over their area. they dont grow now. Sometimes i wonder if the bulbd are under their sleeping till a sunny day. Whatcha think?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Your welcome.

BB,you might dig them up and see, move them to a sunny spot.
I have had a few bloom one flower the 1st year, but its rare.
Most 2 to 3 years.

How wonderful to see these lillies!
My mother had them in her garden. Here in MA we have a beetle that eats lillies and many people have lost their whole gardens. I did put down some season long systemic insecticide with some help. However I do miss these.
If you have any extra black seeds would appreciate it. Just about 5 or 7 to put in our church bed. Will surely baby them. Thanks. I remember that it takes 2 yrs. for these to flower from seed. Wonder why they don't sell these in garden shops??

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Will be glad to send you some next season.

Thank you Tropic...may all your 'tigers' be very prolific next year!!

I did live in Wichita back in 1963-66....was a nice quiet town...and people were very nice.
Have a great day...Geraldine : )

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

At that time I was living in a small town south of Wichita, called Haysville.
Today I live in south Wichita, just a couple miles from where I use to live.

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

I lived in Wichita in 1991...moved to Ft. Lauderdale Florida (and was SHOCKED at the things I saw...and I don't mean plant life) *LOL*

Funny how my flowers look larger, but that might just be there on a smaller stem.

West Warren, MA

Great pictures, I just need to decide on how many bulbs to buy so it looks great!
Maybe 3?? I know the first year they will not be as tall, but will bring back many memories to seniors on the hill!!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

They do tend to multiply quickly here.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Full Sun?? All day??

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Yep that will get the best flowering!

West Warren, MA

I have decided to wait on buying tiger bulbs, I just read about the virus they can carry and pass on to other lillies.
Has anyone have that problem?
I do treat for 'beetles' that have decimated many tigers here in MA...also have about 3 bublets alive and will see how they fare. Not close to other lillies...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)
