Good grief...

North Augusta, ON

Temps are going down to 8 C (48F) tonight. I've got everybody outside...will they be ok or am I gonna have to drag them all back inside? Please say they'll be ok, I've already put their inside hooks to use...

(Zone 1)

ThreeG: 48º isn't too bad and I think they will be fine. I would be a bit concerned if they were going to be subjected to many, many hours at that temp but I had some of mine out last winter with nights down @ 35º ... it always warmed up at sunrise.

Gee ... you really do live waaaay up north, don't you? Those temp's for nighttime sound great to me. We are having nights in the upper 70's and so humid. Thank goodness for AC! I love warm days and cool nights ... better for sleeping.

Gainesville, FL

Yikes, really!! There's nothing like getting up at 7am to go on an 8-10 mile run and its already 78F and humidity at 90+ %.

North Augusta, ON

Yer warm down there! Today's high was only 64F. Humidity was 82%...my bones hurt right through.

HOttest summer I remember in a long, long time!

North Augusta, ON

Send some of it this way would ya please...

How about a trade? Some of this awful heat for some of your cool temp's? Sounds like a good deal to me ... I'd be getting the better part of the trade. I just don't want it to get below the 48ºF!

"Beware of what you wish for!"

Well, I for one am enjoying the cooler temps. Its only going down to 12C here tonight (dunno what that works out to in F, I think the mid 50s). I keep my hoyas in the house anyway so that's not an issue. My morning walks to the communter train have been more enjoyable this summer, and I've actually needed a light jacket some days. I could do without so much of the rain though, it makes entertaining outside too much of a challenge...

Oh, I'm not complaining about the temps., I'm loving this cool weather, I can not handle the heat...or the cold for that matter...but could also do nicely without all this rain. Its playing h e double L with my septic system.

High today maybe 82 in Hilo...about 79deg. up here. Nice trade winds about 15mph...cool nights... kinda nice!

Hey 3G,
I beat you! Here is the last weeks weather (mind you, it IS mid-winter here)

----------------------- Low High Rain
Wed 01/07/2009 10.7C 15.1C 15.6mm
Thu 02/07/2009 10.1C 14.5C 6.4mm
Fri 03/07/2009 12.1C 16.0C 1.8mm
Sat 04/07/2009 11.7C 16.0C 1.4mm
Sun 05/07/2009 7.9C 15.1C 0.0mm
Mon 06/07/2009 3.6C 13.2C 0.0mm
Tue 07/07/2009 2.9C 14.0C 0.0mm

The lows are overnight temperatures and the highs are daytime highs - Notice it is always colder at night if it is not raining as there is no cloud cover to keep the day's heat in. Today is a lovely sunny still day - perfect for working outside, but I suspect tonight will be COLD; they are predicting 4C, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was colder than that. This is the kind of weather I start to worry about my cacti in. They are full of water because of the week of rain we have had (I have nowhere undercover for them to go) and a true frost now would cause real trouble.

So far this winter the Hoyas are having a ball - plants that were shrivelled and dusty at the end of the summer are all green and solid now. I lost two plants in the last summer: H. polyneura (always a risk in my conditions) and annoyingly my variegated H.compacta, which I had had for about 6 years, but I think that particular plant was always a bit sad - it came to me as a very small cutting and always appeared to grow with extreme reluctance. On the other hand, I picked up a couple of large untidy NOID baskets full of Hoyas for $4 each and it looks like one of them is some form of variegated H. carnosa, so that will be something new for my collection.

Ciao, KK.

KK - good news! Yes...kinda wintery there now, eh?

It's in the 90's here and humid.

London, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Well, last week they said London was hotter than the Bahamas... this week we are back to highs of 70 and lows of 55.. and loads of rain! Gotta love this country!

All my hoyas were LOVING the warm weather, got a couple of buds I'm hoping are going to come out soon, but I wasn't so much. Too hot to commute!
