My McMurray shipment arrived today. I ordered 5 each of Speckled Sussex, Barred Rock, Turken, Black Australorp, and Black Giant. They sent me one extra Barred Rock, and the "free rare chick" so I have 27 birds.
All seem to be doing well - they've had their first drink and are now pecking ferociously at chick starter.
Here is the free rare chick (sorry, a bit blurry). I'm not up on my crested breeds. Anyone have an idea what it might be?

New chicks are here!
I think I figured out the rare chick. I think it's a White Crested Black Polish. Whaddaya think?
Could well be, but could also be a silver Polish, which I know they have at McMurray because I ordered some from them this year (sadly they didn't make it so I can't post pics). They looked pretty much identical to that little one!
The only reason I think it's not a Silver Polish is because the crest on this chick is white, and the pics of Silver Polish chicks all show a dark crest. But, we'll see.
What your mystery chick is is CUTE!
Ah, you're right there, I forgot that too.
Cute!!! Another person who likes the turkens :)
Black Polish, white crested!
Too cute!
Kassy, I love Turkens because they are so different looking. Just a little weird, like me. ;-)
We had one before that was a good mother, even took some chicks that we gave her that weren't hers. I hope these will be good mothers too.
They are all cute though. I wish they wouldn't grow up quite so fast.
That rare chick looks like our Matilda, she's a grayish/silverish polish with a white top.
awwwww such cute little chicks congratulations on them {:~)
gallesfarm, I had never seen a turken, until a teacher had raised some chicks at school as a project. When they were about full grown, they needed homes for the 3 chickens that they had. A friend knew we had chickens and asked if we might take them. I didn't know when I went to pick them up that one was going to be a pretty brown and black turken.
Before I headed to my boyfriends with them, I called him and told him what the chickens were. He had seen pictures of the turken before and didn't care for it. But he was surprised when I got there with Ozzie. He said he was a much nicer looking bird then he thought it would be.
We lost Ozzie suddenly and I miss him. A very gentle bird.
There's a picture on McMurray's site that would put anyone off of getting Turkens if that's the only pic they saw. It's a photo of the head and neck of a Turken, and he ain't very pretty. :-) He was also debeaked which adds to the "eww" factor because he just doesn't look right.
I thought our Turken hens were pretty though.
Turkens are my favorites:) The ones I got this year have me guessing still about their colors. The ones that I "thought" would be red when they arrived have gone thru several color stages (including white and black "bits") but now seem to be red again. The "black" ones are showing gold/brown lacing, (by that I mean color edged feathers).
I'll have to get pictures, and maybe someone can tell me what the colors are...
OK, that does it, were getting another turken next year, or 2 or 3 :)
I think the one he saw was on the front of a magazine he use to get. It was not a pretty bird, so I could ses why he wouldn't want them, but Ozzie was :)
