Flowering banana tree

Louisville, KY

My banana tree is flowering and the stalk is bending where the flower or whatever it is called is coming out. I don't know if you are supposed to put something under it to prop it up or do you all think it will be okay? It looks like a big purple corn husk...lol thanks for any info!

My neighbor just lets the blooms hang naturally and the fruit sets and stays fine - he doesn't prop the blooms up.

It's natural for the stalk to bend over, the female flowers are higher up and the males are lower down. Some bananas do have upright stems, mainly ornamental ones. Sometimes if the plant is bending over a bit the weight of the bunch can make it topple over. If you see that starting to happen just prop up the bunch with something. Do you know which banana you have?

thanks I did not know that about the flowers being female on the top etc...I had alot of the female blooms but the lower ones ...only a couple. I have no idea what kind it is. My dad had that tree when I was little and we always got babies off of it. I have about 30 bananas?? but I don't want to eat them. They look too tiny. thanks!
