I noticed that I don't have any epi that is fragrant. Would love to add a few into my collection.
If you don't mind, I would love to know some of your favorites and a description of the scent.
Fragrant Epi
My cuttings have not bloomed yet(Youth, to cold, to hot, and snails, I think everything was against me). But some of the sites list those with fragrant.
Sandy the epi nut
My epi oxypetallum has a very delicate fragrance. Can't remember how to describe it, but as soon as mine blooms -- I'll try to post a description. Note thread by plantladylin "It's Blooming."
Oooops! posted on wrong thread. Got mixed up -- have been fipping back and forth from thread to thread. Lili -- I will go and sniff my Skin So Soft. I swear I haven't been sniffing anything else this morning!
It's hard to describe it but like a strong powdery scent. It's a good smell.
I agree. Smells good but after a year, I can't describe it. Hopefully more than one will open in the sunroom shortly and I will be able to describe it more. At least this year we won't have to tramp outside and get bitten by the chiggers at midnight -- those things don't sleep! Last year DH and I were running around outside in our bathrobes taking pictures in the middle of the night. My mantra now is, "Don't go to bed without checking epi buds!"
LOL! I usually leave mine outside until the night it blooms, then I haul it into my sunroom so I can enjoy it. Last year, I had several spurts of flowers.
That gives me an idea. To bring mine inside tonight to catch the fragrant. Mine is blooming tonight. I remember the fragrant last year. It's mild but noticeable. I'll see if I can comparable with any other scent.
the epi oxy have a strong fragrance but the eip hookeri doesn't smell at all to me. May be it's stronger when it's more humid outside. I am not sure, but the frangrance on mine fills up the whole enclosed sunroom.
If everything goes according to plan, I will have a report on the fragrance of epi oxys tonight. If they don't open tonight, surely it will be tomorrow. The buds are pretty plump and the ends of the buds have begun to separate.
For all of those watching and waiting -- you can see pictures on the thread "Epiphyllum Oxypetalum Blooming!" by plantladylin and also find out about the fragrance. Can't really describe it because it doesn't remind me of anything I have ever smelled. The fragrance isn't objectionable, but after everything opened up in the sunroom, it became almost overpowering. When I have sniffed them outside, the fragrance is obviously a little elusive. It is a lot "heavier" than Skin So Soft, though. Now that I have made absolutely no sense at all, I hope each of you will have your own flowers soon to sniff away at!
