CLOSED: never seen before

I have never seen this bird before a few days ago. It looks like a house finch with yellow markings instead of red, BEV

The color of male House Finch head-throat feathers can vary from bright red to yellow. It's diet-related...more pigment in food=more red color. Might indicate ability to find a good food source (females always choose the reddest males)

That's the most yellow one I've ever seen. Very pretty. Here's an article on the pigment variation.

Interesting article jec6. Thanks all for sharing the info.

Very good article jec6. I have noticed that the female House Finches I observe can be anywhere for dull gray to a faint tannish color.

My males are all red, but some have more red that others.

I have three other pics. This is a little blurry but I had to hurry and take these out the window. You can see a little red in the breast area.

jec6 Thankyou for the info. I thought I was seeing things. I didn't have a drink either LOL

If you get the chance to watch their mating behavior and as they raise their young I hope you get as much joy out of it as I have over the years. Their habits are some of the most endearing, sweet behaviors I've ever witnessed.
