Fertilizing brugs

Starkville, MS

We are having very hot weather (in the high 90's) and NO rain. My plants are completely dependent on me for water. My question is whether or not I should apply any fertilizer. Some of the brugs are in pots and some in the ground. I am pretty careful about furnishing them with water and would like to see them develop some blooms------------but feel that they must have fertilizer before this will happen. Anyone got suggestions?

Shirley,
If you want them to grow, they have to have food especially those that are in pots. I would use a complete liquid fertilizer as long as they continue to grow. If they go into any sort of summer dormancy, however, either reduce the number of times you fertilize or the concentration you use so you don't have too much mineral build up in the soil. It was so hot and dry here last year, that my potted Brugs went dormant and refused to grow much other than putting out a few small leaves. So I cut way down on the fertilizer until the weather cooled down and they started to show some growth. We're still in a bad, bad drought, but my Brugs are bigger now and haven't gone dormant they way they did last year.
