After-watering tip

Medford, NJ

I don't know if anyone else does this, but after watering, especially minis, I usually set the pots on some folded up paper towels to wick out any excess water. I do this regardless of whether I top or bottom water.

A few days ago my mom was at a flea market and they had one of those Sham-Wow tables where they demonstrate the use of towels...so of course she bought half a dozen. She gave some to me, and they ARE very absorbent. So, I figured since I am using alot of paper towels every week, I would try setting the pots on top of the Shamwow towels. You have to start out with a damp towel, very very very well wrung out.

They work! After a few minutes, that damp towel needed to be wrung again, and it there was alot of water in it. Cheaper and better for the environment than using up a roll of paper towels every 10 days!

As for the pepsi in the carpet thing, I don't know if that works, and I am not about to pour soda on my carpet...but I figure it is only a matter of time before one of the kids spills juice or I spill my coffee on the rug.

PS- the pic shows a piece I cut very small, I initially cut them figuring I'd use them as dishrags. They are actually pretty big, like the size of a handtowel and a half.

You have to tell us where to buy these Shamwow towels............

I was just coming on to DG to show people where they can get the best thing I own for indoor gardening. Goldleaf gave it me last year and now that the air gets so dry from using fans on my gessies, I have really used this like I did in the winter months from the dry heat in the house.

I also use it mix any kind of fertilizer, pesticide sprayer............

Here is a website to get one:

Of course you have to pay for shipping but GL paid a lot more for this buying it from a garden center.........I just changed the batteries this week. If you order one, there is a little long long screw requiring a very small Philips head screw driver. I couldn't get it out for the longest time until I finally figured out it was the longest tiny screw in the world that holds the batteries in place.

ShamWows are at drug stores. They are great to wash the car, but they will work to soak up the SV water I am sure.

Gail, now that looks like a useful device. I have a thing for misting, but it is always so hard to find a good mister. Will have to check it out.

It is the best mister I have ever had. It sprays automatically (battery operated) when you hold the spray 'thingy' down...........
