My Chicks Hatched **Cute Pics**

(Zone 7b)

My Fawn Duckwing hatched out her brood yesterday and surprise brought them out today.
I wasn't expecting her to bring them out till tomorrow but i guess she was tired of sitting on the nest LOL

I don't think if i hatched a million chicks i would ever tire of seeing them and saying awwww look how cute ;~)

awwww Harmony, they're so cute!!

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Harmony, they are so adorable. She is such a pretty bird. Can you tell what sex the chicks are?

(Zone 7b)

Beclu i sure can but i'm not picking them up yet i don't want mom upset at me right now.
With My oegb i have through 8 years experience of raiseing them learned how to tell when they hatch what sex they are.
The roo's have a tiny comb and the hens have a slick head it's a 100% postive rate on these too.

I know most folks like to know the sex so they can weed out the roos with these show type bantams i raise a roo is worth the same as a hen and sometimes more.
In these bantams it's all about blood lines and feathers more than it is the sex LOL

Thanks for all the awwwww's i have another hen i just put on eggs so there will more awwwwww's in 21 days {:~)

Incubator chicks are adorable, but there is nothing in this world as cute as a momma hen with all her babies...and look at them all!!! Im afraid Id waste the whole day just watching them. Adorable.

(Zone 7b)

I agree i love watching mom talk to the baby's they seem to have their own language

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Same here MissJestr...........Makes me want more too. But I want a turken :(
We also try never to get any this late in the year. We got our last batch or EE chicks at about this time in the summer. But a friend has and incubator. He was going to hatch some chicks and asked if we wanted any hatched. He just put the eggs in with his.

Would love to see more pictures Harmony. At least I can drool over yours. Wait, I don't think drool was a good word to use there!

(Zone 7b)

Kassy with all the animals i have i would be the first person to be removed from Daves for posting to many pics LOL.

I will bring up the thread i made for my friend Wren and you can see alot that i have {:~)

Right now I have enough for me and BIlly, maybe next year I can get more... It took me an hour to water and feed critters this morning, and BIllys sheep may be delivered soon, so add another 15 minutes to my morning feeding. I will run out of time... Hee Heee but they are well worth it.

Thanks Harmony :)

And I understand MissJestr. Can I ask how many chickens you have?
I know how time consuming it can be. The chickens live at my boyfriends, and I don't......LOL But I know how much time it took him each morning before going to work to get them feed and fresh water to them. Especially worse here in the winter.
We have a small flock. We got them for pest control and eggs. But they lay more eggs then we can eat :)

I have 3, 1 roo and 2 hens in one pen. Billy has 4 hens and one roo in another pen. In addition I have 2 horses and Billy has one. I have one dog, billy has one dog and he has 2 cats. Plus we (Ok I) take care of 9 other horses up at the stables that are on the ranch property. We planted a garden (actually 3) one in the ground, one container garden consisting of 3 big containers and one hay bale and 5 small containers, and one big horse trough that Billy planted squash and sun flowers... and then there is Billys sheep that will be coming in a few weeks, and am looking into getting him a calf as well.

If you add it up, I take care of 8 chickens, (nothing close to others on here which I have the utmost respect for them) 12 horses, 2 dogs and 2 cats. Billy helps in the afternoon, whenwe come home from work and school, but all the work in the morning is done by me at sunup while trying to drink coffee...LOL if you did not know by now, Billy is only 3 years old, and does what he can. He can water and feed both pens of chickens, collect eggs, water the horses and the garden so he can play in the mudd..

Life is grand here...

Awwww, how nice that Billy is learning at such a young age to take care of animals. I love it :)
My boyfriend and I only have 13 hens and 3 roosters. More then enough for us as far as eggs go. The neighbors and guys he worked with usually end up buying eggs from him.
He had to take care of all of them before heading off to work for 6 am. That was part of the reason he decided not to get anymore this year. Had he known he was going to be layed off, he would have got some more, because now he has the time for them.
OH, and I don't live with him, so they end up being his job when I'm not there. When I'm there, I help with them.
He only lives on an acre of land, but I know his daughter would love it if he had a horse. She loves horses.
Between him and I we have 4 cats (had 5 until we lost the oldest one last fall :( ), and I have an older dog that has congestive heart failure. He was my mom's.

I'm so glad Billy is learning how to care for animals and gardens at his age. Way to go! :)
