CLOSED: I'm going to trim my Jade Vine (Strongolydon macrobotrys)...

Gainesville, FL

I don't usually offer Jade Vine cuttings for trade, because they tend to be very difficult to root. However, in the past, many people have expressed an interest in them, willing to give it a try.

My vine has to be trimmed 2-3 times a year in order to keep it from engulfing the world. I will have a lot of cuttings, most very large. They will be soft-wood type cuttings I guess you would call them.

If you are among the percentage of folks who want to try to root this plant, please DMail me. It takes heat, high humidity and time to root them. I have done it before a few times, but in truth, its much easier to get results with air layering.

I take no responsibility if you can't root it, you are definitely on your own here. But if you'd like to arrange a trade for cuttings, LMK

Hi, dear - what's on your wish list? I could try rooting it in my greenhouse - think that would work?

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Oops, I just found your posted 'wish' list - I don't have what you are looking for, darn it! LOL

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I looked this up and it is an amazing plant.

Gainesville, FL

Yes, its very cool. I have different "jade vines". 4 mucunas and 1 strongylodon. 2 of the mucunas just sprouted from seed.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Goth, do you trade for your wonderful plants or buy them?

Gainesville, FL

I got the green jades years ago as trades. I bought a red jade for $25 a few years ago, and just purchased a black jade. I got seeds for yellow and purple jades. I buy plants, but I do trade for a lot as well

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

goth, since I have zone envy, and I don't know anything about this vine, except looking what I have read. Is it something that could be overwintered here, or does it have to get huge to bloom?

Gainesville, FL

It has to get large to bloom, which if given appropriate conditions takes between 2-3 years. If you have a greenhouse that you can heat, it can be done in your zone. If you have a trellis and a basement with a growlight, maybe not so much

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I would love to see a picture of a black jade - has it bloomed yet?

Gainesville, FL

No, it will probably be a couple years

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Thanks.

Hi Queen,
I would love to try my luck at rooting the vine. How many cuttings would it be and are you trading only for the 6 wish items on your list? I have many plants. If you would be willing to look at my list, it is only part of what I have. I have many other things not listed. I have several hoyas. Let me know....

Gainesville, FL

My trade lists are extremely neglected, I have many more 'wants' than are on there. I am in the process now of trying to add things to my have list.

These cuttings tend to be very large, 2+ feet is the norm, I have been trading one for one. Each cutting will make more than one attempt

Gainesville, FL

I have pruned only one area of my vine, sent out 3 boxes full of several yards of cuttings, put some in to root myself, and composted the portions I consider unusable.

I still have a ton of pruning to do so if you are interested please LMK

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

That is SO GENEROUS of you! A lot of us have been wanting this beautiful vine - now we can try it, thanks to your kindness!

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

I do npt have any thing on your list, but have ragoon creeper, gingers, crinum, queens' tears, cuttings of colus,
rooted. and probably others if your are interested. Elaine

Gainesville, FL

Kamikid, I am looking for the Double Rangoon Creeper, I have the single 'creeping' in the greenhouse, LOL Why don't you Dmail me?
My tradelist is woefully deficient in both haves and wants. I am slowly trying to list my haves. But my wants will probably take equal time when I get to them

Ranburne, AL(Zone 8b)

I would love to have some if they r still available

Gainesville, FL

Nothing on your list caught my eye unless you have some unlisted stuff

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

My jade vine died that I bought from Top tropicals a couple of years ago...although My trade list is not great , either, I would LOVE cuttings of this from you if you see something I have that you might want. Just let me know

thanks, Sharon

It isn't that some people's tradelists are not "great", savagegarden. It depends on what is on the individual list. I have limited space both in my greenhouse AND in my yard for new plants and I have to be selective with an eye toward filling the small available spaces with things I think will do well and match up with my existing landscaping

Ranburne, AL(Zone 8b)

I have Stevia now, pomegranate cutting,Christmas cactus and thanksgiving,

I am closing this thread. I will be trimming the vines back today and mailing out the trades I have agreed to, then that is all til next time.
