A Regal Fritillary...

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Visited one of our gardens today...a variety which is becoming rare. It's host plant is violets...and we have the 'Bowles Black' I grew from seeds. I only saw it on our Coneflower and Milkweed...and the violets are just a couple of feet away. I wasn't a witness to it possibly laying eggs or not...oh well. I'm just thrilled it visited us...a "lifer" for me!!!

Glad you enjoyed Josephine :)
Maybe within this forum we could start a campaign to have everyone grow some violets in their gardens to save this butterfly :)

I grow wild violets in my garden, but I don't know if the Regal comes all the way to Texas.
