I am going to sow some strep seeds and have never done it before , was wondering if any of you nice people have any tips or advice on sowing , soil , and growing , need any help you wish to share and thank you so much in advance for any and all help you offer :)

Starting Strep Seeds , any advice ?
i sow my seed in small plastic solo cups with a vey fine soil.like seedling soil, dampened,then i sow the seed on top & do not cover with soil. i then place in a dome or plastic cover where it's warm. works great for me.

I just sowed a few strep seeds yesterday, just the way Bonnie recommends. Be interesting to see what we get.^_^

Thank you for the advice , I got info from Gail as well and so I am going to try sowing them this weekend , do you know about how long it should take to see something happening ? I know conditions make a difference but just an average ? The Sinningia you put in the RR box is doing very well , thank you for sharing :) I can't wait for the next RR , I hope there is more room to put more in , makes me wish we could send two boxes but then I guess people getting them would be overwhelmed with too many to choose from and plant although I soak the whole leaf in some cases overnight and then just the stem till I have time to plant them and they are fine but anyway thank you again for the help :)

Viostrep and anyone else. My seeds came up fine when I used a germination mix but these last strep seeds were put in Volkmann's wicking mix and they never came up............so.............back to using a germination mix for seeds....

they should be up after about a week, if they are hybrids,if they are species they take a VERY long time to germinate.so try to remember that.lol

Bonnie, when I used the germination mix mine took two weeks to come up??? They came from Goldleaf of a hybridized one she did..............
usually they come up pretty quick, 2 weeks is a long time, unless they have a species in there background.

I don't think I do it the right way, Bonnie...................but they do come up eventually.
