Not sure which this one is...Anybody know??..I have it in the ground year around.. It is in full sun, about 4 feet tall, smells good in the morning time...
Hedychium ID.please
Is this the one next to the green house?
No..by the fence..it is blooming its head off right now...my other gingers came in..
That does look close. I think Nadine has Sherry Baby. Maybe if both would bloom at the same time, it would help.
I have Sherry Baby somewhere else...The ginger been in this bed over 10 years now..
That does not mean that you don't have Sherry Baby in two places. Compare these flowers with your Sherry Baby.
One of the only gingers I know the name of right now is Sherry Baby-long story-lost tags. Sherry Baby grows about 6' tall. One of the taller hedychiums.

Knowing you have a very large patch of these Hedichums to share I have been trying to find out what you have. The more I look the more they look like the ones Maggi calls her generic Yellow Butterfly. I have looked at hundreds of pictures and they look most like Hed. flavescene. Here is a picture of what we have blooming now, which is a little behind yours because yours get an earlier start.
Ken I found an old ginger forum thread regarding flavescens vs flavum although the pictures no longer exist. Dave Skinner wrote a nice long post. I have flavescens, definitely a Sept bloomer for me, I don't have flavum. Birdlady Liz tried her best to get me to buy flavum but I just wasn't interested at the time. Said the fragrance was magnificent.

Thanks TickiSox, I have not read that exchange but did read Dave Skinner's piece on his Web-site. I too am confused. If you have any pictures of your flavescens, would you post them so we could compare? Maybe we could come a little closer to finding out what we have. Nadine has a huge bed of these yellow butterflies but no one wants them because they do not have a name. Or at least no one will trade for them. I had forgotten about the hairy foliage, which our does not have. I will look closer in the light of the day tomorrow. Thanks.
Hi Ken, the flower of my flavescens is pure yellow, even the stamen. Nadine's plant has a reddish stamen.
I understand about no one wanting to trade except for named plants. I have sold unknown hedys on the Lily Auction before, I sell them much cheaper than the named and they sell fairly well. That could be a way for Nadine to get rid of her clump if she doesn't want to keep any or wants to reduce the size of it. Just a thought!

Are the flowers pink or orange ? It looks kinda like one of the Tai Hedychiums. Do you have Disney & Orange Brush ? Is it that color or more of a pink ?
I have looked at a hundred pictures of Orange Bottle Brush but this is more of a pink. I do not have Disney or OBB but it was one that Nadine gave to Maggi and I planted it. So I am sure Nadine has this one but she gets new ones and sends us a piece before it blooms for her, so I don't think she has had one to bloom that looks like this. Some day I will find a name.
That ginger above is blooming just like the pic..again..a bunch of them...lol..even Maggi can tell ya..
Richard, check out there pictures of plant #3049 of a H. coccineum;

Doesn't it look more pink than orange? Very much like my pink in the picture up above.
I like the color but don't know the name.
