A funny chicken story, or at least sort of funny

Denver, CO

Yesterday I wrenched my knee, and had to wear my son's knee brace. So was limping all day, and my chickens escaped out the front door. They took off down the street. One came back, but the other one got lost, I was sort of able to locate her by hearing the the rotating dogs barking at her down the street. So I was limping down the street, looking for her, and calling her in this high falsetto voice. This young woman walked up the sidewalk past me, and just stared at me, with this look, like "don't they have homes for these people" ?? Claire did her desperate loud honking, and when I found her, I swear she flew at least 10 feet, and 3 feet off the ground. .

Thanks my knee is doing well.

I've mentioned the marauding , ransaking squirrel, that neither my dog or cat would deal with, and we weren't smart enough to deal with, lol. Well the other day, I threw some pumpkin seeds out into the yard, to try to get the squirrel to eat them, rather than our bread, and everything else in our kitchen.

Well the girls and I were outside, and the squirrel, came down the tree, and decided she really wanted those pumpkin seeds. Alice, the one who went after the cat at 3 weeks old, decided she just wasn't going to put up with a squirrel. The squirrel came over and tried to get the pumkin seeds, and Alice got the "eye" and stared at her. And when the squirrel came closer to the seeds, Alice chased her, and the squirrel, jumped up on the chair. Well this squirrel wanted those pumpkin seeds so much she tried again another time. The third time the squirrel decided the pumpkin seeds were worth fighting for, so she turned around and tried to attack the chicken. As soon as she did that, Claire came running over, and both of them chased her out of the yard.

About a half hour later we came out, and the squirrel, decided to try one more time. Alice went after her and chased her all the way across the yard, just inches behind her. I know how hard it is to catch a chicken that doesn't want to be caught, but I didn't know what agile, fast predators they can be. Claire decided to join in the chase, and well the squirre has not only not come in our house since then, but not even into our yard, lol. Guard chickens. Pretty impressive, and they're barely 2/12 months old.

What a great story, Claire wanted to reward you for limping along far enough to find her.
