This is blooming for me for the 1st time, the white variety of Erythrina crista-galli, var.leuchoclora. Definitely not the red usually seen with Erythrina.

White Erythrina
nice
Cool!, I had no idea there were white ones!
There aren't many & this one (I actually have two) was not easy to get!

If you can tell us a source we would appreciate it.
Very nice!!!
Sorry Kay but I don't know where, or even if, others can be found. These are the only two I was ever able to find.
Awesome, I love erythrinas.
Kyle :-)
David, I have seen photos of a variegated one but never one with white flowers. Awesome. How large does it grow. Shrub size or tree?
Barbara
E crista-galli are generally small trees, usually about 20', sometimes larger. The red flowered form is used a lot in California & is actually the official city tree of Los Angeles. The variegated Erythrina you have seen is probably E variegata, the flower is similar but doesn't open quite as much. The leaves on that one are beautiful, I have one and it really brightens up the yard.
Does the white get 20' tall? I have a crista-galli that is about15' tall in zone 8a. I believe I have the only one in this area that large. It is my favorite tree.

I'm surprised yours got that large, usually they are treated as perennials that far north, they usually will freeze to the ground at anything below zone 9.
I have seen a picture of a white one that was very large, the trunk must have been 18" across & the tree was probably over 20' tall. The tree was down in South America, in either Uruguay or Argentina. In both the countries E crista-galli is the national tree.
Wow, that's really nice!
I wonder if the seeds would come true if they were self pollinated?
I have no idea, I have been wondering that myself. I know someone who has germinated seeds from a white, and I am going to pollinate mine and find out. I also am going to cross it with a red.
