Nice to see you and your photos here Tami, welcome! While you are here, maybe you can fill me in on the advantages of grow bags...I've never seen them before.

Nice "Crawfish Pie" molly. I've never seen the bag thing either, but am sure curious about it. I always crack up when it comes to Hibiscus "Crawfish Pie". I remember the official Dupont Nursery site says something about "Slapping Your Mama" under the description of "Crawfish Pie" on their site. LOL

Come on Jon, get some of that Cajun feeling in your speech...it's actually 'Slap 'yo mama' good!

You're probably right Dee. I've never spoke Cajun b4 although I have tried eatin crawfish. They were a bit fishy tastin to me. I did eat some alligator dipped in mango sauce over the weekend, but "Jaws" doesn't know about it. Shhhh y'all.

Jon, wearing Crocs is the least of your problems if you are eating alligator with Jaws around. :-)

Actually I was out of town visiting my brother in Sarasota, FL. Jaws doesn't ride well in the car driving across "Alligator Alley" to the west coast of FL (too many distractions). She just stayed home with the alligatorsitter.

Thanks. The grow bags are cheaper than pots and take up less space when empty. I wanted to make foam planters and stucco them to make 'em purdy and then place the bags in them. I saw the idea here on Dave's. My thinking was it would keep their feet cool in this hot Georgia sun. My health was not such that I could get it accomplished but I plan to make some throughout the year and be ready for next year.

I also use coco coir for my vegetables so I can control the fertilizing more and I use coco coir and Miracle Grow Moisture Control for my more permanent plants.

I get my grow bags from http://www.hhydro.com and my coir from BocaBob here at Dave's

beautiful Crawfish Pie Tami! I'm so glad you posted it here! I too haven't used a growbag before but I bought a ton of them. :-( Mine are black though, thought it'd be too hot for the plants. Now about the stucco idea, sounds really interesting, care to share the plan?

I tried the crawfish when I was in "Nahlins" myself. Tasted something like I'd think umm.. like little "Jawsy" herself might taste like. I'll report back to ya'll when my gardening course is over, I hear they serve gator "evuhwhare" down there...Jon, you do have me down for the course, don't cha? Meals are included right? (chomp, chomp, chomp). LOL

Yeah, they do serve quite a bit of gator in Florida. Not as much so down here in South Florida as compared to central or northern Florida. Down this way people are really into eating chilled Stone Crabs dipped in a mustard sauce. That stuff is sooo good.

davis1676,

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I have search high and low for were I read about the foam planters. Eureeka! I finally found the messages. The first one is the foam planters and the second one is an outdoor winter house of foam. Very interesting!

have never heard of this but it sounds like it's definitely worth trying ! Thanks for sharing the links Tami. ;-) Let me know how your progress is going. You always find the most creative, interesting & unique projects, I love all the ideas. I wouldn't think about the foam house but the foam planters, yes, I'd like to try those! Thanks.
