How Hot Is It?

Baton Rouge, LA

We have been having a string of very hot, dry days with the temperature ranging from 97 to 100 degrees. The other day I was adding water to my fountain and I was standing there a long while before I noticed I had a visitor.

You will notice him on the ledge to the right. I live on the edge of a large subdivision and we have open fields behind our house. I guess he was looking for water and a cool spot to rest.

A cutie.

We had that really hot weather two weeks ago. Now we have thunderstorms and rain every day.

Jose, how did your plumies fare last weeks storm? From just south east of you guys it was a pretty wicked light show. No rain for us in P'ville, just a bit of wind and lots of thunder.

Same thing here. It got dark and very strong winds, but no rain. Several of my plumerias got knocked down.

I can't go a day without watering. The blooms don't last as long with this heat.

We finally got a decent rain today.

It seems almost silly to get excited over a quarter inch of rain, but I was tickled pink. Not much is happy with this heat. Hope your plumerias didn't get damaged.

We're supposed to hit 115 on Saturday and 116 on Sunday. Ugh! I've lived here going on 40yrs now. Odd, but as long as there's no humidity (monsoon season is just starting but humidity is waaaay down) and the hotter it gets, it's easier to deal with. EXCEPT when getting in the car!

My plumie loves it, though. First year I've put it in the ground. Last year it was in a 12 inch pot if you can believe that!

Kind of reminds me of the old saw about not the heat but the humidity.....a chicken still cooks in a dry oven...grin.

Your plummie looks too happy.

Never heard about the chicken in a dry oven. Logical. lol

Thanks. I'm pretty happy it's done so well over the years I've had the cutting.

Oh, as to the the rest of my garden - half of it is resting during this heat.

Happy Gardening,

Must be the heat the way your leaves are folded mine lay flat but its 90's here. You don't have the problem with the rust like we do thats a pain its starting on mine right now they are so close to each other it spreads like wild fire one night when its not raining i'll spray. Does look happy ;)

The leaves have been like that year to year. But you're right...when it cools off, even during summer nights, they do open more. This particular white one LOVES the water. My other's didn't and were too fussy so I gave them to my neighbor. I'm in awe at how well they're doing at her place.

Rust?! Jeesh. I'm dealing with it on my roses. I'd go postal if I had to deal with it on my Plumeria.

Thanks!
