When I snapped this bird at my new bird bath, I was thinking House Finch, but when I enlarged it I changed my mind to Chipping Sparrow.
Am I right or wrong.
CLOSED: a chipping sparrow, right?
I want to say a White Throated Sparrow.
I can see how you could say that.
One on my books, Birds of Georgia Field Guide by Stan Tekiela (p123), says the White-Throated Sparrow has a "small yellow spot between the eyes (lore)" not sure what (lore) means
So, I'm not sure that's what I have. I can't see a yellow spot.
Thanks to replying.
I went online and saw this as a White-Throated Sparrow.

This is a chipping sparrow: what do ya think?

White-throated sparrows won't be back in Georgia for months, they're all way up north now.
Hey threegardeners, that's it.
And after what claypa said, I'm sure its a chipping sparrow.
I'm closing this ID thread.
If someone disagrees, they can also chime in.
I don't disagree... chipping sparrow. The "lore" is the little fleshy interval between the eye and the bill, which is sometimes distinctively coloured.
Thanks for the education on "lore".
