I know it's hard to see her, but she was teeny tiny and was up in a tree a pretty good ways. She looked like a ruby-throated hummingbird. I had never before seen a Hummingbird in her nest. We seen her flying around, and thought we seen her land on a branch, and grabbed my camera and zoomed in... and I spotted her in her nest. I thought that was awesome considering how tiny they are to begin with. I probably won't ever see another Hummingbird in it's nest for the rest of my life. It was just pure luck to catch her flying around and land in her nest.
Hummingbird in nest
I see her Teresa! Very sweet!
Awwww, that's really exciting!! Congratulations on finding the nest. I'm still waiting for the day that I find one.
Yeah, we have a ruby throated hummingbird here at our house, and so I'm watching really close when she leaves and goes up into our oak tree... I haven't spotted her nest yet, but I know she's there somewhere. Hopefully I'll find her, I just figured out a new setting on my camera... I didn't know that it had a 20x zoom on it and that you could make an image sharper, when taking it at a long distance. Wish I'd have known that sooner!
This was the male ruby throated hummingbird at the river that came up for a second to get a drink from the flowers. The lighting was wrong on my camera setting, so the picture came out bad.... isn't it weird that it seems like when you see a hummingbird drinking from a flower, it seems like it's "wild" rather than drinking from a hummingbird feeder?
Love the picture of the hummer on those purple flowers!
What kind of camera are you using, teresa?
Ummm, let me look at the box,...It's a Sony DSC-H10 Cyber-shot digital still camera
Actually no... this hummingbird has green on it's head.... do the male's ever lay on the nest? Or other hummingbirds? I'm confused?
Congrats on finding a nest. And double for taking a picture and sharing with us.
Great!!!
Nice pic teresa!
The female should have green on her head. You might have seen her w/ pollen on her head or after she had been marked by a bander (those wear off)
The males do not have anything to do with nesting or raising of young. They just do the deed and leave. :-)
Bummer! LOL just kidding
