HERBIE thanks! I'm not sure which forum to post it! I've only been on DG for a year! lol.

Congratulations, Jon! You'll have to resist the spoonerism trend when naming your child. LOL Just considering the possibilities!

You ought to share the news over on the jokes and humor forum, too. I think some of the other regulars there would be very happy for you, too! As long as they didn't think it was some joke, with the punchline TBA. . .

Hey thanks Angie! I have not thought of a name yet but I will think about what you said and avoid the possibility!
My son's name is Akira so maybe I unconsciously thought about it when I named him.

Kind regards,
Jon.

You haven't called him Arika (Erika) have you?

So, are you Japanese by birth, or just living there now? Very good command of the English language, spoonerisms aside, if it isn't your native language!

Tokyo, Japan(Zone 10a)

You guessed it! I'm a British expat and rarely get an opportunity to converse in my native language! lol

Ah, I suspected as much! I used to be a writing tutor in college, and you just didn't have the grammatical structure I usually saw in Asian students writing in English!

So, do you speak Japanese as well? I've heard it is a very difficult language to learn.

I am studying Japanese and get by in a conversation but I've a long way to go, reading is the most difficult as three different writing systems are used. As for grammar you literally speak almost backwards!
Lol, back speakwards just leaped off the screen!

Japanese word for English is eigo!

Congratulations, Jon. Please extend best wishes to your wife. Please post in the NE forum as well.

My son compared his level of Japanese to a second grader. His wife however is fluent. They met while attending college outside of Kyoto.

Hi Jan and thank you! What is the NE forum?
