I took a new photo of one of my Ember Lace plants. This is a really large container and plant. The plant is wide, big leaves. It loves the container like my Cleopatra's do. I usually have a top on her. I have another in a REALLY large container. Hope she get really big. We shall see. They can surely be finicky, more that Cleopatra's.
Epescia's
Beautiful! I think it has to be my favorite episcia--definitely one worth tending to it's finicky needs! When it comes to AV's and streps, I have tried, but am unable to pick one absolute favorite. I have a similar large container I've been saving--would be perfect for Ember Lace.
Wow! I have never seen that before. I will have to try to find one:)

Lyndon Lyons Greenhouses carries Ember lace............along with a lot of gorgeous episcias.......and avs.........and streps.........and chiritas.........etc...........
How big do you let yours grow Sally?
As big as they want. The pinks are slow, so I have not taken any off yet. I will have to on one of my Cleopatra's though. I will start a new one soon. I grow them in spagnum in glass.
The leaves are pink AND green? That is beautiful. I like the container you have it in also...but is it growing only in moss or is there soil under the moss?
I know I am going to have to have a few of these some day...
Yes,Sally,I agree the pinks, especially the really light ones are slow. The reason I asked is because right now none of my Episcias are domed or growing in jars, etc.,and I was wondering how big of a container to use.I used to plant them in long necked jars with big bottoms. At the last show I went to they had them in things that looked like big wine jugs, like a couple of gallons size, but very light green glass.I am just trying to think of the easiest way LOL.

I have these big bowls like Sally and I got all of mine at Hobby Lobby. They are 10.00 each and very large clear bowls. If they need to be domed, you can just add saran wrap on the top. I don't grow mine in Spaghnum moss but Sally does.
Let me find a picture of the size.........
This was a newly planted one I had of Topaz Episcia that didn't need to be domed...........she grew very quickly just with the extra humidty from the tall sides of the round vase...........
I have bubble bowls like that, and some are a little taller with a foot on the bottom like the first pic. I posted. I also just bought a really neat TALL one. Lots of room. Some cost more, but I like having different ones. Lots of things will work, just get them large or you will have to plant again when they grow.
Great picture, Gail. They do seem to love glass. Some with lids some without.

What about if the leaves touch the sides of the glass? Any problems (rot, discoloration etc) when that happens?
The real light delicate ones sometimes care if they are touching but sturdy ones.........can take anything, including mashing up against the glass.
Yes, the delicate ones do care about the glass sometimes. Mine touch and are fine, but I do keep an eye on them. Most of the others are not that delicate. There are SO many wonderful plants to choose from. I also LOVE the reds!!! They are pretty tough. My reds one's are not in glass.
This red/pink one is one I love.
A lot of them love the humidity, but most do not need a top on the glass.

my gosh, you don't even need flowers with foliage that pretty.
That is true of most of them! That is the favorite part for me. I have mostly ruffled, variegated AV's too. I love leaves.
