Hi all you brug experts. I planted a pack of white brug seed. So far only have one seedling. Could use some advice on potting on. What size pots, where to store for the winter etc. Sure wish I could get my greedy little hands on some of those exotic-looking coloured brugs. The only seeds I ever see up here on Vancouver Island are the white ones. I had one that I grew from seed and it had made a Y so I thought I might get a flower from it this year, but the darn thing 'popped it's clogs' in the greenhouse during last year's tough winter. Do they have to be put into a great big container even when they are tiny or do I put them into progressively bigger pots, and what size pot should they ultimately be in???
Growing brugs from seed
Hey, Teresa who post here is from Sooke BC. You should look her up, she has a nice collection of brugs and I am sure can give you the best advice for your area. I will email her and have her come look for this post.
I have emailed Teresa, I am sure she will check in here later today. I hope this helps.
Thanks Brenda!
Hi Shirley. Yet another Brit in Sooke? LOL!
What a small world! I wonder if you're in my neighborhood!
I will Dmail my email to you. ;-)
I'm excited for Shirley.. She is in for a big treat huh Raglady? LOL
I am growing a summer sunrise brug from seed this year. my first ever brug. It is looking good as it is starting to put out some side growth. Glad there are still some people out there doing it the old fashion way. I cant wait to see some flowers!
I would think so. I am so glad I noticed her addy.
It is also nice to see you here Joyce, I have missed you.
Thank you Brenda... I have blooms despite the triple digit heat.. just sparked an old flame. :)
Your MEM looks fabulous Joyce! ♥
You should post its picture here!
It's stunning Joyce!
Brenda, did I scare Shirley off?
Nexus, is it something that we said?
Shirley?
Maybe she doesn't get here as often as we of the addicted group do. LOL.
Good point, Brenda! ☺
no my internet connection was down for a few days. and yes teresa. nice flowers,
ZZ, I'm so in your camp regarding MEM. She blooms her heart out for me and seems never to be without a flower or two while she regroups and does her flush over and over during the season.
Shirley, a word of caution to you regarding brug. seeds. Seeds do not come true to the parent plant, with the majority of seeds developing only white flowers. The fun begins, however, when just one seed gives you something special, sometimes a flower far better than the parent.

MEM
HOLY MOLY Tussee! That's a fantastic flush!
Shirley came over last Monday and I gave her a few babies. 1 Seedling and 3 named brugs.
She's now off on a holiday and I'll visit her when she returns. She's very sweet.
Lucky Shirley! How very nice and generous of you to take her under your wing and give her plants to get started with brugs. Sharing is a key component of a well rounded gardener... and it's also lots of fun.
