He ordered
2 Aracana - easter egg chicks.................Got 1 that was left there that was a few days old.
2 Silver Laced Wyandottes.......................Got none
2 Buff Orpinton............................................Got none

2 Barred Rocks..........................................Got 1
2 Black Australops.....................................Got 1 hen, and 2 roosters.......not sure on then, very nasty

They ended up giving us 16 chicks when we only ordered 12, because he was the last one in there to pick up chicks for the day

Last time i ordered from the feed store I ordered 25 White & Black sex links. I ended up with 50 chicks, 25 white, 24 black & 1 either Golden Comet or Brown sex link, they didn't know at the time what it was. They refused to let me take any if I didn't take all of them even tho i didn't' order that many. I just happened to be the last one there that day to pick up chicks & one lady had never showed so i was forced into taking her chicks. I didn't feel right leaving all including what I had already paid for but they refused to give me mine (even tho paid for) till i paid for & took what was left.

This time i ordered straight from the hatchery & picked up myself or went to a store where i could pick out the chicks myself.

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

WOW..... who did you order from?

GK, there is no way in HADES they would have told me I HAD to take chicks AND pay for them!! wow...

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Wow greykyttyn. I don't think any place would try that here. The TV stations would be called in on something like that.
At least the feedmill did order him some chicks free of charge the following year. They did get him 3 easter egg chicks, and 3 wyandottes.
Of course, out of those 6, 3 ended up being roosters. sigh :(

Alfred Station, NY(Zone 5b)

greykyttyn, that's flat out ridiculous. You were not responsible for the other lady not picking up her chicks. I'd be taking my business elsewhere AND telling that feedstore why! Holding the chicks you ordered "hostage" unless you bought the rest of them might be considered extortion!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Got them from a local feed mill Melissa. Not sure where they got them from.
Have had some better luck hatching our own. But now were going over to a more of the Easter Egg chickens becasue of raising our own, and we really liked the big brown eggs. Only have 2 that lay the big brown eggs now :(

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

gallesfarm, that's why I said the TV stations would have been involved in something like that here. Companies here don't like bad new being reported on them :)
The TV stations help keep them in line.

Greykyttyn: They can be glad your not married to me. I would have taken that place apart. Why did you not call the police. There is nothing legal about that. Did you actually give in to that hijacking??? OMG I feel like making a trip to Joplin, MO. I can feel the hackles on my neck standing up.

Go Get'em Haystack! {:~)

They've done it before. The feed would go up in price every 2 week also. Problem was I wasn't very good at teh time at standing up to people, I had known them for a few years, knew people that knew them, went to church with them & half their family which made me even more mad at them & bc of a situation here I could have thrown a fit & it would have done no good. They were good upstanding citizens & I was merely a kid. They claimed that they ordered shipments of no less than 50 chicks & I was splitting with her, if she didn't show by closing time then i was responsible for the entire order. Which i was never made aware of but when you take a 16 yr old, extremely quiet girl who was painfully shy, talking back to the old man scared me to death & i'm sure he knew it. I'd have been out 25 chicks, the money it cost & with no place that I was aware of to get chicks at the time. Mom would have killed me for losing that much money as hard as we saved to get it. I was more scared of my mom & coming home empty handed than I was with bringing home too many chicks. I took the chicks & we put them in the freezer when they were old enough. Was unhappy with him anyways bc he would only order what he wanted to order & nothing else. Those were the worst chickens I ever had, they weren't even good to eat. The sad thing is he's still in business & no one i know can stand the man. I have let everyone i know around here know about it, I stopped buying feed from him bc he was charging me 3 times the amount i can drive across town & buy it for. I since found out that I can order straight from the hatchery, which i didn't know there was one 50 miles east of me at the time or the other feed store in town will order anything as long as its a minimum of 5.

Greykyttyn they would have been hearing a ear full from me. Can't believe a business can stay in business treating customers that way. That is absolutely ridiculous.
I know of a lady that works at a post office in MO that is a lot like that man. Maybe it is his sister, lol
Thinks she can overcharge people and treat them crappy just because she has connections. Everyone is afraid to report her. Ridiculous!

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

I appreciate everyone's concern & outrage but i can't go back considering no one cared then but i can't go back & change it.Only learn from my mistakes & have since then learned that standing up for myself isn't considered talking back to your elders.

I'd really like to just see some more pictures of kassy-51's chickens. They were adorable in the first pic there. Is there anymore pictures?

Hi Greykyttyn!!! I think your situation is unfortunately quite common some places is the Great South. When I worked for the Sheriff's dept in Harris Co. Texas I found the same thing. When people were pulled over everything was, "Yes Sir, Yes Sir" and if they did not bow to that they were treated like the scum of the earth. Being polite and respectful is one thing, but groviling in the dirt is quite another. I got into a big argument with officer I worked with, I told them they were police officers, but rather deputized vigilantes. To say the least I was not popular, and even my family was threated. None the less I stood my ground and eventually they stopped a lot of the crap when I was around. I spent years watching my father disrespecting my mom. I made a vow with myself that I would show respect toward women especially and children. I'm sick of seeing people trashed. Don't let anyone treat you less than kind, and if they try, keep the hammers cocked and give em both barrels. I try to always be kind and respectful, I thought perhaps I could make up for my fathers rudeness. Respectfully Haystack

Greykytten, I can see where you are coming from. You were sixteen an taught to respect elders. Good up-bringing! That doesn't mean you had to like doing it.

Greykytten, you can go to the thread that says, "Pictures of our girls" and you will she a number of the ones that we have now :)
Will try to post some more pictures of the first ones that we got on here after I scan some.

Conroe, TX

Greykytten, your a rare find these days. Not too many people your age care anything about their elders.
You should be proud of yourself for being a respectful person. I agree with kassy, good up-bringing.

haystack, having lived in harris county for many years (not anymore) .......I hear ya.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I agree Greykytten... you ARE a rare find, and it warms my heart to hear "respect my elders" You never hear that around here!!
I preach that to my kids till I'm blue in the face.. It is an old time tradition that is long lost in Calif.. I'm proud of you.

LOL Haystack.. I can so relate to you too.. I've been accused of being too passionate about protecting those I care for.. You are a wonderful man.

Sorry to get off topic..

Kassy.. I hope all works out with the new ones..

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

ZZ these are the old ones, ID that brown one!!!...............LOL
We ordered buff, but think we got Gold Star.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Well.. considering the service you got.. I'm guessing their breeding operation is not a real tight ship either.. The fact that they are selling EEs as Aracaunas.. you get the picture, they don't have a real high score for a well run biz.... I don't see them spending a lot of time making sure the breeding is perfect..

Understand that I am not claiming to know.. I do read a lot, I have a couple of very expensive books for reference when I double check...

I think the two you are referring to are red & white ones? I believe those are Cinnamon Queen??
I think a Gold Star would be buff & white?

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

Thank you everyone. I did have good upbringing. So did 90% of the kids I went to school with 4 yrs ahead of me to 6 yrs after me.. then everything went downhill after that. I think having older parents helps with that a lot. I was the product of lots of "dads" & lots of "grandparents" instilling values in me that weren't blood related.

The chicks are cute. i need to post new pictures of my other ones for everyone to see.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I'll send the pic of the one that we have that is kind of a buff and white after I get home. This dial up sucks when trying to load pictures from my cam. Give me my DSL!
