Begonia Display today...

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

I had to move my Begonia Display to give them more shade in the afternoon sun. I also added a backboard. So here it is today with 4:00 PM shade. Before they were in direct sun this time of day. I just knew what they would look like if I didn't move them.

How much sun do they get now Pamela? Of course your sun is hotter than mine, (that seems so weird to say...it IS the same sun, isn't it? LOL) but I'm still experimenting with just how much sun they'll take.

That's a handsome display. Do you have mostly Rexes?

Hi,
They are in the shade all day and seem very healthy for it. These are mostly Rexes. I'm not sure about shade/sun exposure for your area. But I do know that the begonias will let you know when they've had enough. I found out last year when I almost fried one from too much sun.

Pam,

How is that display holding up?

Dale,
I'll attach a new picture tomorrow. They are doing wonderful. The relocation of them to all day shade was just what the plant gods ordered. They really love it. Now I just need to figure a way to protect them there on our occaisional cold days this winter. I could move all of them but.........

Nice display PamelaQ. They've really grown quite a bit.

Dale, is that Hugh McLaughlan? I just picked one up last month. I wasn't too keen on it at first but now I really like it.

hc,

Yes, I believe it is Hugh McLaughlan since it matches yours perfectly.

I bought mine, untagged, at a grocery store. Now I can put a name tag on it.

It is tough as nails for a Rex. No significant leaf disease during summer like most Rex's. I got it in Jan and when the weather was cooler the purple hue was larger. I have already split some of the rhizomes off. The thing grows fast. It is very striking from a distance.

This is Golden Glow from Palm Hammock>

Thanks for the compliments!

Hugh McLaughlin or McLaughlan? is a cross of hatacoa and rex. It is quite showy.

I bought Golden Glow at PHOE during the convention. Mine doesn't look as good as yours though.

LIN...it is.

Golden Glow likes lots of light. Mine was under 40% shade cloth at the greenhouse until I closed the place down. It was one of the few I didn't sell off.

Can you believe that was a 4" plant in January?

Pamela, again, Nice work. Good cross section of available plants too.

I even kept one of my Coleus topiaries>

I love your topiaries. Where do you get the frame for them?

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

Most of the frames were from Ivy topiaries that rotted in the summer heat and humidity (Ivy does that a lot here in FL).
