Jump in here everyone.
We have registration in Wisconsin for all live stock. This now includes Chickens.
Do all states have the registraion of the chickens?
Thank, boyfriend wants to know :)
Question on Registration?
What register chickens? Not so far, I think that is ridiculous.
You can get licensed here or be a NPIP but no registering here
not here in PA..thats a crock that you have to register..another way the government can keep tabs on things they have no business interferring with..geeeezzzzzzz
Cndydavis i agree with that statement 100%!!!
Kassy are you talking about NPIP ??
No ZZ, I'm talking about this......

No charge yet, but we are waiting for one to come up.
I guess Wisconsin is the first state in the nation to mandate livestock premises registration.
The only animals not included in it are dogs and cats I guess.
cndydavis I also agree 100%
WOW! {:~|
I was told that this may become a reality for all states due to concerns over the bird flu.
So that is the excuse they use huh
Yes Harmony, I think that is why it got started here.
Who would think Wisconsin would be first? LOL
smedgekles's........ Any excuse is a good one in the govenments thinking.
Boyfriend just wanted to know if it was in any of the other states yet.
Texas threatened to have mandatory premise registration some years ago. It was to be free at first and then there would be some sort of fee later if you hadn't registered yet. I went ahead and registered our premises (not just chickens), then the whole thing sort of fizzled. They still say it is the plan of the future in order to be able to trace all food animals to their origins. We'll see...
Worries me that one day we won't be allowed to have poultry or other birds at all because of government involvement.
My boyfriend has been registering since 2005. I have the card sitting in front of me.
It has his Premises Code number on it.
He knows people who have not registered, but he would rather register then risk paying a fine for not doing it.
So far he only had to tell them that he has chickens. Not how many, and that's good, because the number that we have can change at any time.
When we were in NY we were in the voluntary scrapie program for our sheep. They transferrred our information to the state's animal ID (NAIS) program and we got registered without our permission or knowledge. Not until we got the certificate and ID card in the mail did we know anything about it. NY apparently has mandatory premises registration, but not animal registration - the one vet explained that they just want to know where all the different farms are so in case of an "outbreak" they don't have to be driving up and down the roads looking for farms. Uh huh. So even though the federal NAIS is supposedly "voluntary" we were registered at the state level and probably that was transferred to the federal level.
When we left NY I did not tell the scrapie coordinator where we were going. Of course, if I join the scrapie program here, chances are that at some point the information will be given to the federal program without our permission. There's really no way to avoid them getting your information if they really want it, and if all states go the way of WI, they'll just coerce the information out of you with the threat of fines.
Nasty and messed up. No better way to create a need to know than to create a new law. As if generating bureaucracy has ever made it easier to move quickly. If they were really worried they'd be focusing on what they need to be doing in the event instead of generating legalities to wade through. Ugh. Reminds me of the genital exam KY wanted my 10yr old to have to enter 6th grade...what pray tell do they need with my child's genitals?! Any number of excuses found that it's good to have another law. (((irreverent grow, here, sorry in advance but...)))they'll wanna register defecation next.(medication in drinking water, they'll need to know, not just being gross) Preregistering every one of life's potential snafus is NOT helpful.
Aaack!!
Years ago a rumor was started that one day the goverment would require all to have a number you would be traced by.
People balked and laughed at it no way were they ever going to have a number to be tracked by.
Today as soon as you are born into this country you are given a number to be tracked by it's called a social security card.
Very Ture Harmony!
NAIS was a FederalGovernment attempt to register all animals for government oversight. I was involved with Backyard Poultry in fighting this attempt of government take over. It was defeated last year. But you can bet it will not be the last try. I would not register in Wisconsin or any other state. I would go to jail before I will give into that type of harassment. The whole purpose of Nais is not to just register, but rather to discourage private citizens from raising their own animals. The government wants to get rid of private citizens, and have it turned over to large conglomerats who they can heavily tax and also control what goes into the feed, the same way they do the beef industry. That is why I despise the U.S. Governnment as I do Russia and China. I would never trust this government. Haystack. I will keep my gun's and animals period.
WOW!!! ***Haystack for President*** ***Haystack for President*** ***Haystack for President***
Haystack, you rebel :p
Dear dear Kassy!!! You have found me out, a rebel I am. If you read Gwendalou's thread about permits in Wa. State You'd see she is right, anything over 10x12 needs a permit. I built my 16x16x16 coop and the County came out and told me I had to tear it down. Then file for a permit and rebuild. I wrote the County a letter and told them, not in this lifetime. They called me almost weekly and threatened me. That was five years ago. I haven't permited it and haven't heard from them in almost 41/2 years. Yes I'm a rebel and yes I know how to push back. I don't bother them and will not allow them to bothr me. Haystack
Kassy on day at work a young man came over to me and asked me " how do you get away with the things you do and nobody bothers you" I laughed and pulled him over and whispered in his ear, I said " Just make them believe your crazy and trust me, everyone leaves you alone" His eyes just grew and I laughed myself sick. Really Kassy I just don't shove very easy. I really love people, but have very little respect for government nonsense. It's never about safety it's always about money. Hay
AMEN Haystack!!! thats all our government always wants is more money..and they still have NO clue where or how to spend it, except on themselves!!
Haystack.. I'm with you 100% you describe me to a T.. I try to go by the rules... I have my limits...
In a perfect world, it would be great to have information if it really was to protect people.. This is not a perfect world.. the government is not for the people!
Look at what a mess the Govt. has made out of Calif.. and they want to start something here????? I don't think so!!!!!!
here we have npip, and a few others but they r voluntary. yes our state also has premises id as ur state requires but ours is optional for that as well none of them r mandatory yet thankfully.
