Most have probably heard, but there is a new virus out there, probably going to be very widespread. I use AVG (free) and they already have an online update for their program. It is a large update, so I'm assuming this must be a pretty nasty bug.
Here's the information: VIRUS ALERT: New Internet worm
There is a new worm making its way through the Internet, and it is spreading rapidly. Currently, there is not enough information to suggest a fix.
Affected systems:
Windows 95
Windows 98
Windows NT
Windows 2000
The worm is infecting web servers and workstations. Any person who visits an infected website could be infected. Internet Explorer Version 5.0 will automatically download the infected readme.exe file from an infected web server. Explorer 5.0 will not ask if you want to save/open the file, it will do it for you. We have unconfirmed reports that Internet Explorer Version Beta 6.x will do the same thing. If you are using Internet Explorer 5.5, you will be prompted to save or open the readme.exe file. DO NOT download or save the file!
Once a workstation is infected, the worm will become an e-mail virus and will use Outlook to send the readme file to people in the address book. The worm
will also spread by open shares on the network.
