Is this a female Northern Cardinal or maybe a juvenile - I'm not sure what is is really.

It's a youngster, Hack. The females' beaks are red. That's the best way to tell them from the juveniles.

are you sure it's a cardinal at all? It's hard to tell in the pics, but something doesn't look right to me.

OK, I couldn't see the crest in either of the pictures and the blotchiness of the coloring didn't seem to match for me. Good to know.
