Boy! I am proud of these!

These are off my 2 ten foot high tomato vines.

These are the vines. I would really prefer shorter vines and more fruit but hey! they make a good conversation piece and they are located right near the street for all to see.

My home made topsy turvey is doing really well. Even got written up in local paper this week. Inspiration for a comic blog entry, too

Look at this corn! I didn't really believe it would work, even after seeing so many pictures from you folk. Looks like I am going to have corn, maybe 2 ears on some stalks. Who would have thought!!

Excellent! Congratulations.

Gessieviolet: Beautiful tomatoes and I like you homemade topsy turvy, my topsy turvys are out producing the revolutionary planters by a long shot; I still prefer the EBs though.

Great looking tomatoes Gessieviolet!!!

I think you'll win the tallest tomato plant prize this year :)

The "blob" still holds the record for the biggest I think. :) Ray_Der_Phan was kind enough to share his photos as well.

Gessieviolet: Great looking plants. What kind of tomatoes? I too was shocked at how well corn does in EBs. I got 2 ears from every stalk, getting ready to replant.

seray53: LOL the Blob keeps expanding. Pics don't do it justice anymore. It tried to consume some of my Jalapenos and now is reaching out for my Eggplants. It's over 6 ft. tall and around 10 ft. wide. Lots and lots of tomatoes forming now. Couldn't be happier that it's doing so well and it being one of my favorites(Cherokee Purple).

Wow those look great. The Cherokee Purples are one of our favorites too. I think they do better with the spacing you've given them. Ours are closer together and the high humidity and heat are causing them to split. Still good and still productive! When it gets your house send us a pic. LOL

Gessie, Those tomtoes are beautiful. Amazing what a difference a zone makes. Our plants are far behind here in zone 7, only about 4' tall and many but far-from-ripe fruits. Your topsy turvy plants are really impressive.

Ray, when I first saw the thumbnail photo, I thought that was fennel in your containers. Those tomatos are incredible. I've got to get one or two of those earth boxes. We have a south-facing deck that cries out for them. Good luck.

seray53: I've never had splitting problems with Cherokee Purple thankfully, but my Black Krims split all the time. Bums me out but I love thin skinned tomatoes and they are definitely that. If the blob reaches the house.....I'm moving out. I don't even like walking by it....makes me feel small and insignificant lol

Pamgarden: Thanks Pam....yes, you definitely should get an EB or 2(or 10). So far everything I planted in them has been productive and healthy. Had some minor nutrient deficiencies but that's easily rectified.

Ray, these particular tomatoes are Better Boy hybrids. I carefully kept them pruned to a single stem until the got above my reach, now they are doing whatever. I have a goodly number of fruit. Most weigh a little less than a pound apiece. I would really prefer less vine, more fruit so I am not pruning other Big Boy plants to see what happens. I have nothing like the blob, though!

Oceanside, CA(Zone 10a)

Hey Gessie, I have a few Better Boys going but in 10 gallon containers. Mine aren't doing nearly as well as yours. Most over 6ft. but are spindly and producing tomatoes not much larger than 6-8 oz. I think I will stick to my hybrid of choice next year and only grow Big Beef. It has been a workhorse for me. It's out produced my Better Boys by a large margin. Fruit is also bigger with the same flavor. If you haven't tried Big Beef before I highly recommend it for a hybrid. Here's a pic of one in a 10 gallon container. It's just starting to load up. The ones in my EBs are even bigger with more fruit setting.

I just got done watering the blob....I think it tried to grab me lol
