Too hot for Suet?

Oquawka, IL(Zone 5a)

My DH said he read that you shouldn't feed suet in the summer heat. Any opinions on this? My woodpeckers are sure missing it!

Hi Rose, It is fine to feed suet in the summer but it needs to be a "No Melt" suet.

You will get to see the woodpecker babies when the parents bring them for "feeder training". It is so neat to see them.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to go read labels at the farmstore where I buy my suet cakes....It's pretty quiet around here without the constant "chatter" from my woodpeckers!

Also check regularly for whether it still smells OK, it'll go rancid much faster in hot weather than cold weather.

Hmm, maybe just put out "chunks" instead of the whole suet cake if you find that it gets rancid.

Yep, just put out a little at a go and keep the rest in the fridge until it is needed!
