Me and my boy 'Cap' are working hard at obedience training for our PSA trials. We are lucky to have the east coast director living somewhat close and he came out last Sunday to do a trial run with us. The test is actually 6 different exercises and about 20 minutes. This is only a short one of those. Even in the short down, the gnats were so thick :(
The 3 minute "long down" when you cannot face your dog and he/she is under heavy distraction is boring to watch :) Normally, they do gunfire with blanks of course, but he fooled me this time in the short down, and threw boards at him. Poor doggies ears are a twitchin' with the gnats :(
During the real deal in the next few weeks, I'll not be allowed to hold my chuk-it stick which is fine - he keeps his focus without it; it's more like my personal 'blankie' so I don't get shaky :)
The 'finish your dog' command - well, I was uncertain so he helped me out some. Here were the commands for this tiny portion:
Handler, are you ready? Forward. Down your dog while continuing
Halt, About face – now face your dog
Go to your dog
Heel your dog
Down your dog while moving then recall your dog to heel while moving
About face and heel
Down your dog and move forward 100 paces and do not face your dog
Dog stays down under stress
Call your dog.
Finish your dog – had no clue what this meant, but the judge was helpful in letting me understand it meant to re-heel my dog.
Anyhow, I love doing obedience training and so does Cap :)
