This year they are ignoring my roses so the Bayer stuff I got for them is working I guess, but they are suddenly devouring my passi's. Especially my White Wedding. I can go out and check on it every 5 mins and it has 15-20 beetles on it each time and they are eating thru the leaves and buds. I think I rather have them on my roses (just don't tell anyone in the rose forum!). Anything I can use on my passi's to keep these stupid things away without burning the the leaves or killing the plants?
Japaneese Beetles
I've been using 7 dust on my potted plants and it seems to keep them away .. I don't use it on plants in the ground .. nasty stuff. Malathion should work too and it degrades fairly quickly .. stinks to high heaves though.
That bayer stuff really does work .. have you considered using it on the passies?

Thanks for responding X. The bayer stuff says not to use on potted plants. I did use it on my roses when they were in pots, before I planted them, but they seem more hardy to me than my passi's. I'd really hate to kill one trying. Do you know anyone who has used it on them? if not, I guess I could always use one of my pasture passi's as a guinea pig and see how it does. My passi's are the only plants that get treated with kid gloves around here and they look so good this year, my DH is even enjoying them.
Last fall I hit everything in the greenhouse with the bayer that was in 1 gallon or larger size pots in a desperate attempt to avoid the inevitable whitefly, aphid and spidermite infestation which always occur around the end of January and IT WORKED!!!! Bestest and healthiest plants came out of the gh this spring that I've ever had.
Being this is my first year with the passiflora and not having much experience with them I guess I'd be on the cautious side .. I'm thinking you need something systemic that will work like the bayer .. I know orthene which is in orthenex insect and disease control for roses is systemic but I haven't seen it in a long time. I haven't seen any jb's on my passies yet.

Thanks! I'm fertilizing today so I'll hit my White Wedding with some Bayer while I'm at it since that's the one they are completely stripping and see how it does. I got spider mites on two of them for some reason and those are the two that haven't bloomed yet. Maybe I'll hit those two too. I'll decide as it do it I guess. Thanks!
I'd try just one and wait a week .. if it's going to stress them you should see something within a week. Since you are probably within driving distance to me, I'd appreciate it if you'd give me a head start when you come down to whack me with your watering wand ;-)

Well, I did the one a little less than what the label said and the as I rinsed my pitcher out I used the rinse water in the rest of them so we'll see how they do. Stupid bugs decimated a new flower on my White Wedding that just opened today already. There were 4 of them on the one flower when I went out and checked a bit ago.
Fingers crossed that this helps! Oh, and I think your pretty far from me. Aren't you on the coast?
