Bad News At The Doorsteps?

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

In Mid Spring, I noticed a couple Redheaded Woodpeckers were busy pecking, singing, perhaps were building nest on this dead tree. (To the left of the pix). Lately, I don't see the wp's activity and sounds of their singing or pecking on the wood any more, but the 'caw caw' call of the crows.

There are a pair of these big bad guys that perch on this tree where the Woodpeckers' nest is. Will the woodpeckers defend & reclaim their territory or are they already been evicted by these big bad crows?

Hi Lily, I don't have any redheaded's up here but if there schedule is anywhere near the red-bellieds their babies would have fledged weeks ago.

Hi Pelle,
That's encouring to 'hear'. Thank you. I'll do more reading about the Redheaded Woodpeckers. I understood, they sometime hunt for insect and store them at their nest site. ect. But not sure if they're here year round. One thing though, we had Red Bellied wp. last year that came to the feeder. But, I've yet seen the Red Bellied this year.

I know that Red-headed WPs are some that store their food. Perhaps they were emptying out that tree! LOL.
