What kind of fritillary is this?

Downingtown, PA(Zone 6b)

I think it's great spangled, but wasn't sure. It's the first one I've seen this year in south east PA.

Thanks,

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful butterfly we don't get here!
The undersides look more like a great-spangled than an aphrodite, so I agree it's a great-spangled fritillary.

Thanks Sherry for both the ID and the photo compliment

I just realized I screwed up the picture posting... 1 and 3 are the same and 2 isn't the one of the inside of the wings... Sorry. Here's another shot.

Gorgeous pictures and gorgeous butterfly, isin't it great when the pose so nicely?

It was great, even the lighting worked out relatively well. Today on the same butterfly weed was a first of year monarch for me. I'm hopeful it was a "she" leaving some little egg presents as a thanks for the nectar garden. Silver Spotted Skippers are dancing everywhere now. I have a number of other butterfly pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/joshclapper/sets/72157603353952812/ if you're interested in checking them out.

Best,

I can't tell exactly but it looks close to a Gulf fratillery.. is it tiny? We have lots of them here in my area & they love my marigolds & zinnias.
