!!!Challenge!!!- what should I

Chaska, MN(Zone 4a)

Plant? I have a 12x4 rectangle left of my garden that needs to be used. It is the part of my raised bed that is sandy and reserved for carrots/ beets/ radish- etc- but I have planted 2 sets of beets and 2 sets of carrots- and where I normally have no problems, I can NOT, not, NOT get them going this year. I had beets, but some little critter got them when they were about 1" high- and the rest and the 2 plantings of carrots never came up. It is my first year Hand watering (in the past I have used soakers) and we had a really dry May.... and even though I was out every eveneing- it must not have been enough-- SOOOO I need some suggestions on what can go in a MN (zone 4) garden this late and produce. I already have some of the following but will plant more if y'all think i'll get a crop (and it will tolerate sandy soil): corn, peas, beans, tomatoes, zuchinni (2) , pumpkin(2) lettuce and cucumbers and various herbs. Or should I try something new? I am not afraid of alot of something as I will take to food shelf- So please let me know what you guys suggest- I should try to buy seeds right away before they are all off the shelves! Thanks!

What about some pepper plants?

Savannah, GA

I've had basil, which is VERY quick growing, do well in sandy soil. In my garden it also attracted bees, to the point that we referred to our "busy basil bees." Great in salads, and of course pesto.

You've still got time to plant just about any of the summer crops. I'm having trouble with pollinators and will plant some basil with my new squash. Thanks for the idea.
